IV MA JMC
As an individual, for most of us the post-graduation is the last step of our academic education. Memories are made which will be cherished throughout one’s lifetime, especially looking back to how different you looked when you had an ID card hanging around your neck as a student.
The Journalism and Mass Communication batch of 2017-19 was one blessed batch which was lucky enough to add many more awe inspiring moments to their lives, through the Media Tour organized by the department, which was to the capital of the nation- Delhi.
A three day and four night trip was planned and well executed by the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, which started from 6th of March to 10th March 2019.
Taking part in the anticipation of flying in the airplane was a new experience for many in the batch and so was the visit to Delhi. The final year students accompanied by their class animator Dr. Juby Thomas were all packed for a great trip to the capital which included Meeting Directors of few great institutions, visits to the nationally established media houses, different tourist attractions and the pleasure of great mouth relishing north Indian cuisines. 7th March at 11 A.M we had the privilege of meeting Dr. K.G Suresh, Director, Indian Institute of Mass Communication. Dr. Suresh spoke of how he along with a team of greatly qualified and the best professors run the institution, accommodating different subjects and students from all around the world. He also addressed us, highlighting the different topics on how journalism and mass communication is needed not just in the media culture but also in Indian politics for the better development of the country. Followed by the discussion, we visited the Apna Radio 96 9 FM. Mr. Rajendra Chugh, Head of Programing addressed us on the functioning and significance of a community radio.
The next destination was to NISCORT, where we were addressed by Mr. Sabu Koshy. The sole media institution was a pleasure to see and be known about. Mr. Koshy started the talk with a promotional video of the college and then brushed our knowledge about videography and photography, instilling some important concepts in us forever.
Settling down for the day, the group headed to AksharDham, a beautiful temple known for the huge idol and the marble carvings adorning the temple. The group also enjoyed a light water show which depicted a moral that no man is great than the creator himself.
The day ended in great sleep and with an excitement for the second day.
The second day of the trip was to different tourist attractions in Delhi. Qutub Minar, Red Fort and India Gate were in the list followed by some finger-licking food in Dilli Haat.
Qutub Minar was a beauty at its peak. With different smaller architectural achievements built around the main pillar of Qutub Minar, the group spent time appreciating the tall and huge magnificently carved buildings , thinking about the artisans of the era.
“Lunch was done at the mercy of the lord”, which is a common saying when you visit the Gurudwara and truly it was. The group enjoyed a delicious meal at the Bangla Saheb Gurudwara, understanding the cultural differences, both respecting and appreciating them.
The next on list was Red Fort or commonly called as ‘Laal Qilla’, which was built totally on the red marble or the red stone. The group enjoyed every corner of the gorgeous looking red beauty as they shopped for small yet unique artifacts.
The third destination was the India Gate. India gate had its own charm. The group could feel the pulse and goosebumps as they understood the sacrifices of the brave hearted for their mother land as they shed their own blood to protect it. Standing under the National flag lit on top of the India Gate relit the patriotism in us.
Dinner was at Dilli Haat, which basically is a daily exhibition of the different states of India including both the food and clothes. The students were lucky to taste different cuisines under one roof.
The day ended with great memories and happiness before retiring for bed.
On the third day we were exited to meet Dr. Anil Singh, who has been an electronic news journalist for more than 15 years, starting with Zee News back in 1999. He was Executive Editor at STAR News (renamed as ABP News), and Aaj Tak. Currently he serves news 24, as the executive editor for news.
At news 24, the students also learned the functioning of a news channel, the different equipment required; visual effects, bringing to life different animations and virtual reality. The Director also addressed us on the institutional features, the programs they broadcast and lot more, all adding up to our knowledge.
The day ended with some leisure time spent in recreation at the Sarojini Market and at Dilli Haat, returning back with memories earned for generations to come.
The trip was a great one, both efficient in building networks, expanding the horizon of our academic knowledge and was the perfect reason for a break.
