Kristu Jayanti College started the Biotechnology programme during 2002. The department has all the facilities and infrastructure to cater to the needs of students while imparting necessary practical skills in addition to theoretical knowledge.
The Programme aims at providing up-to-date knowledge, skills and core facilities in this field. The department has well equipped and spacious laboratories, offers hands-on training with all laboratory instruments and training programmes in the field of Molecular Biology and Plant tissue culture, genetic engineering.
The Department has initiated “Creatrix a student-centered activity where students exhibit and showcase different models and projects which are aimed at promoting & encouraging creativity and experiential learning among the students, to make Biological Sciences their choice for further studies.
Trained final year Biotechnology students are the resource persons for this project and have covered many rural and urban schools. The students bring out an annual department newsletter Synapse - which displays scientific research articles, Biotechnology related news and information, career opportunities etc.
Careers in Biotechnology
Students who choose Biotechnology as the subject in the UG level have a wide range of career opportunities. They have several areas of specialization to choose from. A few include Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Forensic Science etc. No matter what career path they take, it all begins with rigorous study and earning a biotechnology degree… Biotechnology careers offer quite a bit of overlap; for instance, a soil and plant scientist might choose to eventually work as an agricultural and food scientist and their education might support both paths. Seeking out new opportunities to expand on a current profession is one of the perks of working in the field, and can lead to exciting possibilities.
