Life skills- and its importance in a person’s life.

In this era of globalization and technological advancement, skill building is an important tool to increase the efficacy and quality of labor for improved productivity and economic growth. Skill building is a powerful instrument to empower individuals and improve their social acceptance.

Kristu Jayanti College is not only an institution which has academic quality but also has a center for life skills which helps in personality development of its students. The students are equally talented in their academics as well as the extra-curricular activities. This is a part of the institutions’ focus to build the future generation with social responsibility.

Kristu Jayanti College, in association with, Rajiv Gandhi national institute of youth, Chennai. Organized the life skills training program, under the able guidance of Dr. Jonas Richard, Director of the Centre for life skill education. The life skill training aimed at helping the students in making a positive attitude towards the life.

The ten life skills are empathy, creative thinking, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision making, effective communication, interpersonal relations, stress management and coping with emotions. These skills are very important and necessary for the students in developing a positive personality and attitude.

Nandini Menon, A first year JPEng student said “Life skills education help the students in motivating and providing practical, cognitive, emotional, social and self-management skills for life adjustment”

These days our environment keeps changing, so does our lifestyle. The dramatic change that happened in global economies over the past five years and the transformation which has taken place in technology has certainly impacted the education sector and the different types of working structures. To cope up with the increasing changes of lifestyle and pressure, students need to have the knowledge of life skills such as the ability to deal with stress and frustration. Today’s youngsters may get into different kinds of jobs in their lives, with this there might be pressures associated with different kinds of jobs and one must be flexible enough to be competent to achieve success. To cater to these needs, the visionaries of Kristu Jayanti College started the life skill training for the students.
