SmartZone IoT Club is more than just a student community – it is a dynamic hub where innovation meets collaboration. With the vision of empowering a smarter tomorrow, the club strives to nurture creativity, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills among aspiring engineers and technology enthusiasts.

In today’s world, where the Internet of Things is reshaping industries and everyday life, SmartZone IoT Club provides a platform to learn, experiment, and innovate with cutting-edge technologies. From building prototypes for smart cities and sustainable agriculture to exploring AI, robotics, and automation, members gain hands-on experience in transforming ideas into real-world solutions.

The club is guided and mentored by IoT Domain Coordinator: Dr. Stephen A, along with Student Coordinators: Mr. Kiran Shankar and Ms. Ruth J. from B.Sc. IoT, who play a key role in driving innovation and ensuring smooth coordination of activities.

To date, the club has successfully conducted impactful seminars, including “Fundamentals of IoT” and “IoT Use Cases and Career Pathways”, providing students with valuable insights into the technical foundations of IoT as well as its vast opportunities in shaping future careers.

Through workshops, hackathons, and collaborative initiatives, the club promotes teamwork, leadership, and interdisciplinary learning. At its core, SmartZone IoT Club believes technology should drive progress responsibly, inspiring young innovators to create solutions that impact society positively. Together, the club and its mentors are committed to shaping changemakers who will lead the connected future – truly empowering a smarter tomorrow.

INNOPITCH - IoT Ideathon 2025

The Department of Computer Science, Kristu Jayanti University (Deemed to be University), in association with SMARTZONE – The IoT Club, successfully organised INNOPITCH – IoT Ideathon 2025 on 22nd September 2025 in the M3 Auditorium, Science Block. The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Lal Krishna, Research Associate & Senior Embedded Developer, XAG Labs Pvt. Ltd., Andhra Pradesh, who inspired students to innovate fearlessly. Under the guidance of Dr. Ranjitha, Head of the Department of Computer Science, and coordinated by Mr. Yaswanth, Academic Coordinator, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who pitched innovative IoT-based solutions addressing real-world challenges. The distinguished jury panel comprising Mr. Lal Krishna, Dr. Mayank Pandey (Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Sciences), Mr. Kurian George (Project Manager, KJU Software Development Centre), and Mr. Mariyan J Rooban (Project Lead, KJU Software Development Centre) evaluated the presentations and provided valuable insights.


SYNAPSZ ’25 – IoT Expo

The Department of Computer Science, through its IoT Club Smartzone, organized SYNAPSZ ’25 – IoT Expo, a vibrant platform where 31 student teams showcased their innovative IoT-based projects with applications in smart agriculture, healthcare, smart homes, industries, and sustainable development. The event was graced by Rev. Fr. Deepu Joy, Director, Student Welfare Office, Kristu Jayanti University, who in his presidential address encouraged students to take forward their ideas into impactful projects, and Mr. Narendra Kale, Co-Founder, Wimate Technologies Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, who delivered the inaugural address, motivating students to explore and learn more about IoT technologies while personally visiting all the project stalls. The Expo also saw enthusiastic participation of school students, who gained inspiration from the demonstrations. Dr. Libin and Dr. Mayank from the Department of Physical Sciences served as judges and selected the best three projects, adding a competitive spirit to the event. Overall, SYNAPSZ ’25 reflected the department’s vision of promoting innovation, teamwork, and experiential learning to nurture future-ready professionals.


IoT Industry Use Cases and Career Pathways

The seminar on “IoT Industry Use Cases and Career Pathways”, organized by the IoT Club – Smart Zone, featured two insightful sessions by industry experts. Mr. Arun A. highlighted the rapid growth of IoT, projected to reach $1.56 trillion by 2029 with 25 billion devices worldwide. He explained applications in manufacturing, logistics, power systems, and smart cities, while stressing key skills such as programming, hardware expertise, and cybersecurity.

Career opportunities like Embedded Engineers, IoT Security Specialists, and AIoT Engineers were discussed with practical examples including predictive maintenance, wearables, and self-driving cars. Mr. Prem Sanil connected with students through examples like Alexa and real-time delivery tracking. He explored advanced applications such as Digital Twins, Energy Efficiency, Predictive Maintenance, and Smart Supply Chains. He guided students on building foundations in programming, APIs, databases, and IoT platforms, leading to careers like IoT Developer, Data Engineer, and Cloud Engineer. The seminar inspired students to view IoT not just as an academic subject, but as a pathway to innovation, AI/AIoT integration, and professional growth.
