Expert Talk on Cybersecurity Careers and Resiliency
Date: 29 September 2025
The Department of Computer Science, School of Computational and Physical Sciences, organized an Expert Talk on Cybersecurity Careers and Resiliency on 29th September 2025. The session was led by Dr. Lopa Mudraa Basuu, a distinguished cybersecurity leader with expertise across security operations, engineering, and governance.

The session offered students a comprehensive perspective on the evolving landscape of cyber threats and emphasized the importance of proactive defence and awareness. Dr. Basuu highlighted how verticals such as security operations, engineering, and governance form the backbone of effective risk management in organizations.

She underlined the significance of continuous knowledge acquisition, industry-recognized certifications, and a well-defined career roadmap—guiding students from entry-level roles to leadership positions such as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Critical areas for success, including data protection, training, security architecture, and resiliency planning, were explored in depth.

Dr. Basuu also emphasized the value of mentorship, networking, and domain-specific expertise, along with the need to balance strong technical skills with effective communication. She encouraged students to focus on resume building, personal branding, social media presence, and time management as enablers of professional growth.

The core message of the talk was that cybersecurity goes beyond protecting systems—it is about securing the future through continuous learning, strategic thinking, and decision-making. She inspired students to embrace challenges, develop smart coding abilities, and adopt dynamic approaches while building trust and collaboration within the cybersecurity community.
