Saksyachitra 2023 Documentary Film Festival

The Department of Media Studies (PG) of Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, organized a documentary film festival called "Saksyachitra 2023" on February 24, 2023, at 11.00 AM. The film festival showcased documentaries made by the final-year students of the MA JMC. The event was attended by Mr. Adarsh Eshwarappa, an Indian film director and winner of the Karnataka State Best Director Award and an alumnus of the New York Academy of Sciences in Los Angeles. Students from different departments as well as faculty members also tuned in to be a part of the event.

The festival featured eight documentaries made by the final-year students of MA JMC. Each documentary displayed a wide variety of topics that depicted the society we are living in. The documentaries screened were Silent soldiers, Antyesti (The story of Ivormadom Korapath, Potter's touch, The Talking Drums (Chenda), Mother of trees, Kuthampully Handlooms, Wrinkle in Time, and Ooru. The documentaries covered topics ranging from issues to cultural traditions, from social problems to artistic pursuits.

The event was presided over by Fr. Dr. Augustine George, principal of Kristu Jayanti College, who delivered the presidential address. The chief guest went on to address the gathering and shared his life experiences with the Jayantians. Soon after which, the final-year students of the MA JMC screened their documentaries. After the screening, the chief guest, Mr. Adarsh Eshwarappa, provided feedback on the documentaries. This was followed by a question-and-answer session where participants asked questions about the filmmaking process.

The Saksyachitra 2023 Documentary Film Festival overall was a great success. It provided an excellent platform for the final-year students of the MA JMC to showcase their talents and creativity. The documentaries screened were insightful and thought-provoking. The festival helped the students to gain exposure, learn new skills, and develop their confidence.

The college and its offices will remain closed from 23rd to 25th December 2024 due to end-semester vacation. |
