FOCUS - Photography Exhibition

The third edition of the FOCUS – Photography Exhibition was conducted on 19 August 2024 by the Department of Media Studies, commemorating Word Photography Day. The exhibition opened its doors at 10:00 am after being inaugurated by the esteemed Principal, Fr. Dr. Augustine George by launching the promotional video created by the students of BA Visual Communication programme. He addressed the students and congratulated them for the thoughtful selection of the themes and efforts put forth for the exhibition. The exhibition showcased an impressive collection of over 300 photographs, submitted by students of BA Visual Communication programme. The exhibition featured three compelling themes: "Small Things, Big Stories," "Framing a Sound," and "Fleeting Moments." Each theme invited visitors to explore unique perspectives and narratives through the art of photography. Attendees were captivated by the diversity and creativity on display, highlighting the students' ability to capture profound stories within everyday scenes. The event successfully celebrated the talent and vision of the emerging photographers, offering a vibrant platform for their work.
Wall of Freedom

The Department of Media Studies, in association with Journalism Club, proudly organized a captivating event titled "Wall of Freedom" to commemorate Independence Day. This unique exhibition showcased a rich tapestry of newspaper reports from both the pre- and post-Independence eras, meticulously curated by the students. The exhibition served as a poignant journey through history, where each report narrated the profound struggles, triumphs, and milestones that defined India’s path to freedom. As the event unfolded, students passionately narrated the stories behind these headlines, recreating the emotions and atmosphere of those crucial moments in history. The exhibition also highlighted the crucial role of the press as the Fourth Estate in a democracy, capturing and exposing the news and events of the time to the general public. Through these efforts, the press played a pivotal role in shaping informed citizens, empowering them with the knowledge needed to participate actively in the nation’s democratic processes. The event culminated in a powerful narration that took the audience through the events leading up to the midnight of Independence, capturing the spirit of freedom and the collective joy of a nation reborn. This initiative was not only a tribute to the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters but also an educational experience, bridging the gap between past and present, and inspiring the viewers with a deeper understanding of India's journey to independence.
On Rec 2024: An Intracollegiate Media Fest

The Department of Media Studies organized ‘On Rec 2024’ with the theme ‘Creative Transitions on Record’ on 26 March 2024 at P1 Auditorium from 9:30 am. The fest was hosted by students of IV semester MA Journalism and Mass Communication programme who meticulously planned various on-stage and off-stage events. The events included various media-related competitions such as Quiz, Debate, RJ hunt, Photography, Poster making etc. Students of II semester MA JMC actively participated in all the events conducted as part of the fest. The fest was officially inaugurated by Dr. Gopakumar A V, Dean, Faculty of Humanities. The events concluded with a valedictory ceremony, which was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr. Deepu Joy, Director of the Student Welfare Office, Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous. Certificates were distributed to all the winners of the various competitions by Rev. Fr. Deepu Joy and Dr. Gopakuamr A V.
Hitchcock Film Festival

The Department of Media Studies organized the "Hitchcock Film Festival" on March 13, 2024, in the A2 Auditorium. This film festival honors Alfred Hitchcock, one of the most influential directors in world cinema history. After screening three of Hitchcock's best films, an intra-college short film competition was organized. The awards were given for best short film, best director, best cinematographer, and most popular short film.
Lumos 2024: Annual Photography Exhibition Celebrates the Photography Skills of Jayantians

Department of Media Studies, Kristu Jayanti College Autonomous conducted Lumos 2024, the annual photography exhibition on 22 February 2024. The exhibition was inaugurated by Fr. Jais V Thomas, Financial Administrator and Director, Jayantian Extension Services and also graced by the presence of Fr. Joshy Mathew, Director, Department of Media Studies; Director, Library and Information Centre; Director, HR Department and Head, Department of English. The Lumos 2024 with the tagline ‘adding light to life’ showcased more than 250 photographs of aspiring photographers of Kristu Jayanti College Autonomous on the theme Chiaroscuro and open entries on various other significant themes. The photographs were exhibited in M1 Auditorium from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM along with creative installations and photobooth to invoke interest towards photography among the visitors.
Art Exhibition: Unveiling the Canvas of Creativity

An art exhibition titled ‘Art Beat’ was organised by the Department of Media Studies on 31 January 2024 from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at M2 Auditorium, Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, Bangalore. The exhibition was organised to celebrate the rich tapestry of artistic expression, which is capable of transforming canvases and transcending boundaries. The students of II semester BA Visual Communication exhibited the collages from the Kala-Prathibha, collage making competition held on 24 January 2024 along with paintings and handmade brochures and product packaging designs they have created. A valedictory ceremony was conducted at 4:00 pm to acknowledge the students for their artworks. Dr. Gopakumar A V, Dean, Faculty of Humanities, addressed the gathering and stressed on the importance of artistic expression. He congratulated the teachers and students for conducting the art exhibition. Best collages, paintings, brochures and product packaging designs were selected and the respective students were awarded with certificates.
Kala Prathiba (Collage Competition)
The Department of Media Studies hosted Kala Prathiba (where ideas collide), on January 24, 2024, at around 12 p.m., in the Amphitheatre, a creative collage-making competition for Ⅱ semester BA Visual Communication students. There were 14 groups altogether, with four people on each team. Students entered the competition with great enthusiasm and added more creativity and originality to their collages. The final results of the competition will be disclosed once the exhibition of the collage is completed.
