The Chief guest for Vichaarmanthan on 20.09.13 was Shri M. N. Vidyashankar IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Karnataka, Department of Industries and Commerce. The topic was Technology-only the way of life. He briefed about where we are and where we are going to be with respect to Technology. According to him, one should become an employer not an employee .In 2001, there were 28 million telephones, now in 2013, it has increased up to 980 million, mostly cell phones. Today, there are 7-7.5 billion phones in the world all around. Majority of these phones has an content orientation from Bangalore .Years before San Francisco, San diego played a role in the designing and production aspect. Currently 70% designing is taking place in Bangalore but unfortunately unable to capture post production process which is carried as an escalated cost from other states .
He opened the eyes of the students about the technology and its improvements through a video presentation filled, along with interesting information like Google being the largest search engine in the world, You Tube is the second largest search engine ,25% of smart people in India can cover up the entire population of US, the first commercial text message was sent using a mobile in the year 1992 also in USA, one out of eight weddings are happening through online. And to add on the population front ,that, 67 babies are born in China while 395 babies are born in India. In 2013, the data and information is getting doubled by every six weeks. The three main technologies which are ruling the current tech world are Cloud computing, Visualization and 3D Technology. The term cloud has become an integral part for the past couple of years. The future generations will be working on 3D Technology in the same way as mobiles are being used today. Social media is about people and relationships, no longer about technology. He also gave an insight about EDX, MOOC and MeritTrac. Being the Registrar for Aadhar in Karnataka state previously, spoke about 9 geometric points in a photograph and 256 geometric points in Iris, as part of the biometric information used.
