Department of Psychology organized the 49th edition of Vichaarmanthan, an interactive session with a national visionary on October 20, 2023 at SKE auditorium from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Dr. Shayama Chona, Padma Bhushan, Founder President- Tamana NGO delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Means to an Inclusive Society’.
Through her personal anecdotes and professional experiences, Dr. Chona highlighted the importance of empathy, understanding, and the need for inclusive education. She emphasized that an inclusive society is not merely one where people with disabilities are accommodated but one where they are actively involved and can contribute to their fullest potential. She recounted her struggles and triumphs in ensuring that Tamana received the support and opportunities she deserved. Additionally, Dr. Chona advocates for the use of the term ‘divyaang’ instead of ‘handicapped’ to describe individuals with disabilities. Divyang conveys the idea that each individual, regardless of their abilities, possesses unique gifts and strengths.
Dr. Chona's address resonated deeply with the audience, as she conveyed the importance of recognizing the unique abilities of every individual.
