Value Added Course- Land and Literature
Date: 08 to 13 August 2024
Department of English conducted a Value-Added Course (VAC) titled Land and Literature from August 8 to August 13, 2024, for I MA English Literature students. This course was designed to delve into the profound relationship between land, culture, and literature, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of how landscapes not only shape but are also shaped by literary expression. The course explored the theme of land from multiple perspectives, examining how geography, ecology, and cultural landscapes influence literary narratives across different genres and periods. It encouraged students to think critically about the representation of land in literature and how these representations reflect broader socio-political and cultural contexts. The course concluded successfully, with students gaining a richer understanding of the role of land in shaping both cultural and literary identities. Through this course, participants were encouraged to develop a nuanced appreciation of the ways in which literature can reflect, critique, and influence our relationship with the natural world.


Value Added Course- Functional English and Soft Skills
Date: 02 to 08 August 2024
The Department of English conducted a one week Value Added Course on “Functional English and Soft Skills” for I semester B.A English Literature, and JPEng A & B, students from 2tnd August 2024 to 8th August 2024. The Value-Added Course on Functional English and Soft Skills aimed to equip students with essential communication skills and interpersonal abilities necessary for personal and professional success. The course focused on enhancing both verbal and non-verbal communication, along with fostering critical soft skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. The students were evaluated at the end of the course after twenty sessions by conducting a test through learning management system and certificates were distributed based on their level of perception. There were 117 beneficiaries. The sessions were fruitful and students gained and thorough understanding and knowledge on the subject


Value Added Course- Writing for Media
Date: 25 to 30 July 2024
The Department of English, Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, Bengaluru, successfully conducted a Value-Added course titled "Writing for Media" from the 25th to the 30th of July 2024 for the III semester MA English Literature students. This 30-hour course aimed to enhance students' Media writing skills, focusing on the evolving landscape of digital and traditional media. The faculty members Dr. Lyola Thomas, Dr. Arsha Subbi, Dr. Giftsy Dorcas E and Dr. L. Santhosh Kumar delivered the course content to the students. Dr. L. Santosh Kumar introduced key concepts of digital culture, focusing on digital citizenship and expressions in podcasts. He also covered digital tools like notebooks and flashcards, along with putting forward Stuart Hall's Encoding and Decoding Theory. Dr. Santhosh elaborated on the intersection of literature with data mining. Dr. Arsha Subbi, explored the transformation of literature in the digital age, covering graphic novels, digital comics, and retellings of classic literature. Topics like hypertext narratives, interactive storytelling, and literature through gamification were also discussed. She also addressed subjects like remix culture, digital archiving, and virtual reality in storytelling. Dr. Lyola Thomas, focused on industry-specific writing skills, including resumes, digital portfolios, and content writing for various platforms. She emphasised the relevance of email etiquette, podcasts scripting, and gave exercises for improving practical skills like report writing, brand writing, and subtitling. Dr. Giftsy Dorcas E., introduced new media technologies, covering social media, user-generated content, and internet advertising formats like YouTube Shorts. She included deliberations on topics like music Vlog production, generative AI in content creation, and ethical considerations in digital media. The course helped to provide insights into the distinct requirements and conventions of diverse media platforms through assignments and presentations based on the relevant topics covered by the faculty members.


Value Added Course-Essential Copywriting Strategies
Date: 24 to 30 July 2024
The Department of English conducted a one week Value Added Course on “Essential Copywriting Strategies” for V semester B.A English Literature, and JOEN students from 24th July 2024 to 30th July 2024.The value-added course on “Essential Copywriting Strategies” aimed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to create compelling and effective copy for various media such as understanding the fundamentals of copywriting, analyzing and measuring copy effectiveness, developing creative Strategies and building a copywriting portfolio. The students were evaluated at the end of the course after twenty sessions by conducting a test through learning management system and certificates were distributed based on their level of perception. The total number of beneficiaries were 47. The sessions were fruitful and students gained and thorough understanding and knowledge on the subject.


Value Added Course- History of English Literature
Date: 23 to 29 July 2024
The Department of English conducted a one week Value Added Course from 23rd of July 2024 to 29th of July 2024 on “History of English Literature” for II year B.A English Literature and JOEN students. The objective of the course ‘History of English Literature’ is to provide the learners with a basic knowledge on the political and social history of England with reference to important incidents and movements in English literary and social history. The students were evaluated at the end of the course after twenty sessions with set of multiple choice questions through learning management system and certificates were distributed based on their level of perception. There were 48 student beneficiaries who gained knowledge on the impact of social,cultural, and political events in shaping English literature
