M.A Programme in Economics

1. Programme Design
M.A in Economics is an intensive two years (4 semesters) full time on-campus programme designed to provide to the students a sound theoretical background in the principles of economics and equip them with analytical tools and techniques for understanding & solving social and economic issues with multi-dimensional economic research. Apart from being equipped in different branches of economics, this programme also establishes a platform for quantitative and qualitative applications, economic modeling and policy analysis. It will be worthwhile to the student in terms of effective understanding of the theoretical aspect & analytical aspects of the subject as well as enable them to understand the tools of empirical analysis. The present curriculum contains teaching and evaluation methodology which ensures that the students are well trained and equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to cope with new emerging challenges. The overall envisage of the M.A Economics programme is dissemination of comprehensive knowledge focused at problem solving for national and international economic issues.

2. Programme Objective
The broad objectives of the Masters in Economics Programme are:

• To impart sound theoretical knowledge & economic ideologies to the students
• To teach them the quantitative and qualitative applications of these ideologies
• To enable them to carry out theoretical, empirical, policy and inter-disciplinary research

3. Eligibility

• Passed BA Degree examination of Bangalore University (with Economics as one of the triple majors) or BA (Economics) of any other University as equivalent thereto
• Secured not less than 50% of the marks in the aggregate
• For SC/ST/Cat.-I students and blind students, the minimum percentage of marks required shall be less by 5%
