“Industrial Visit of M.Sc. Forensic Science students (PG)”
Date: 12 to17 April 2024
The industrial visit for the final year M.Sc. Forensic Science students was conducted over a span of four days in the vibrant city of Hyderabad. The objective was to provide the students with practical insights into various aspects of forensic science, alongside a chance to explore the cultural and recreational aspects of the city. The total number of beneficiaries of this visit was 32.

Visit commenced with an enlightening session at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD). Here, students delved into the intricacies of DNA analysis, gaining firsthand knowledge about the methodologies and instrumentation employed in forensic DNA analysis. The interactive sessions and demonstrations facilitated a deeper understanding of DNA profiling techniques, amplification methods, and their applications in forensic investigations. Through the visit to CDFD, students gained practical insights into DNA analysis methodologies, including PCR, gel electrophoresis, and DNA sequencing, enhancing their understanding of forensic DNA profiling.

Following the educational stint at CDFD, the subsequent days were dedicated to exploring the cultural and recreational offerings of Hyderabad. The itinerary included visits to prominent landmarks such as Wonderla, Ramoji Film City, and the iconic Charminar. Students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich heritage and architectural marvels of Hyderabad while enjoying the thrill of amusement park rides and experiencing the glitz of the film industry at Ramoji Film City.

The visit provided students with a well-rounded experience, combining educational insights with recreational activities, fostering holistic development and cultural appreciation among participants.


Industrial Visit to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) in Mysore
Date: 08 April 2024
An educational trip to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) in Mysore, Karnataka, was arranged for the 6th-semester students pursuing B.Sc. Forensic Science from Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Mysore, on April 8, 2024. The primary objective of the visit was to offer students hands-on exposure to the various facets of forensic science and its real-world applications. RFSL Mysore is renowned for its sophisticated forensic facilities and experienced professionals. Mr. Don Caeiro and Ms. Devi S, Assistant Professor in the Department of Forensic Science at Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru, led the visit.

The visit commenced at 11:00 AM with a cordial reception from the laboratory staff. To ensure better engagement and facilitated learning, students were grouped into smaller units. The itinerary of the visit included the following activities:

1. Orientation and Overview: The visit kicked off with an orientation session covering the laboratory's objectives, functions, and the scope of forensic science. Students were acquainted with the diverse forensic disciplines practiced at the laboratory.

2. Laboratory Tour: A comprehensive tour of the laboratory facilities was conducted, encompassing sections such as DNA analysis, toxicology, fingerprinting, ballistics, and questioned documents. Students observed cutting-edge equipment and techniques in action.

3. Demonstrations and Practical Exercises: Laboratory staff demonstrated various forensic analysis techniques interactively. Students were given hands-on experience in activities like lifting fingerprints, analyzing crime scene evidence, and examining microscopic slides.

4. Interaction with Experts: Students engaged with forensic scientists and analysts, posing questions and seeking clarification on forensic analysis, career prospects, and industry challenges.

5. Case Studies and Discussions: Intriguing case studies showcasing the application of forensic science in solving complex crimes were presented. Students participated in discussions to analyze the cases and understand the significance of forensic evidence.

6. Q&A Session and Feedback: A dedicated session allowed students to ask further questions and provide feedback on the visit through distributed feedback forms.

The industrial visit to RFSL Mysore proved to be an enlightening experience for the B.Sc. Forensic Science 6th-semester students, offering them invaluable practical insights into the field.

Day 2-3
Baba Budangiri:
Located in the Western Ghats, Baba Budangiri is a mountain range known for its scenic beauty and religious significance. The visit to Baba Budangiri provided students with an opportunity to explore the natural landscape and understand its importance in tourism and ecology.

Seethalayanagiri:
Seethalayanagiri is another prominent peak in the Baba Budangiri range, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and hills. The visit to Seethalayanagiri allowed students to appreciate the geographical features of the region and the potential for adventure tourism.

Bamboo Forest:
The bamboo forest in Coorgr is a unique ecosystem with diverse flora and fauna. Students had the chance to learn about the sustainable use of bamboo.

Golden Temple (Namdroling Monastery):
Situated in Coorg, the Golden Temple is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery renowned for its stunning architecture and spiritual ambiance. The visit to the Golden Temple provided students with insights into Tibetan culture and religious practices, as well as the importance of tourism in promoting cultural exchange and understanding.

Industrial Visit to RFSL, Mysore (P.G.)

The Industrial Visit to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) in Mysore, Karnataka was organized for the M.Sc. Forensic Science 2nd semester students on 2nd of May 2023. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to the various aspects of forensic science and its applications in real-world scenarios. The RFSL in Mysore is a well-established laboratory known for its advanced forensic facilities and expert professionals. The visit was headed by Dr. Suchita Rawat and Mr. Jeremiah Justus, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Forensic Science, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru.

The industrial visit commenced at 9:00 AM with a warm welcome by the laboratory staff. The students were divided into smaller groups for better engagement and facilitated learning. The visit comprised the following activities:

1. Orientation and Introduction: The visit began with an orientation session where the laboratory's objectives, functions, and the scope of forensic science were discussed. The students were introduced to the diverse forensic disciplines practiced at the laboratory.

2. Forensic Laboratory Tour: The students were taken on a comprehensive tour of the laboratory facilities. The tour covered various sections, including the DNA analysis, toxicology, fingerprinting, ballistics, and questioned documents sections. The students observed first-hand the state-of-the-art equipment and techniques used in each department.

3. Demonstrations and Hands-on Experience: The laboratory staff conducted interactive demonstrations to illustrate the techniques and methodologies used in different forensic analyses. Students were given opportunities to participate in simple hands-on activities, such as lifting fingerprints, analyzing crime scene evidence, and observing microscopic slides.

4. Interaction with Forensic Experts: The students had the opportunity to interact with forensic scientists, experts, and analysts. They were encouraged to ask questions and clarify doubts regarding various aspects of forensic analysis, career prospects, and challenges faced in the field.

5. Case Studies and Presentations: The laboratory personnel presented intriguing case studies, highlighting the role of forensic science in solving complex crimes. Students were engaged in discussions to analyze the presented cases and understand the significance of forensic evidence in criminal investigations.

6. Q & A Session and Feedback: A dedicated question and answer session was conducted, allowing students to seek further clarifications and gain insights into specific areas of interest. Feedback forms were distributed to the students to gather their thoughts and suggestions about the visit.

The industrial visit to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Mysore, was an enriching and informative experience for the M.Sc. Forensic Science 2nd semester students. It provided them with valuable practical.


Industrial Visit to Hyderabad (U.G.)
Date: 12th and 15th April 2023
An industrial visit was organized for the B.Sc. 6th Semester students total number of 54 students, from April 12 to April 15, 2023, with the primary objective of providing them with practical insights into the field of DNA fingerprinting and diagnostics. The visit also offered an opportunity for the students to explore the rich cultural heritage and popular tourist attractions in Hyderabad.

Day 1: Visit to the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) On the first day of the industrial visit, the students visited the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) in Hyderabad. The centre is renowned for its cutting-edge research and advancements in the field of DNA fingerprinting. The visit began with a guided tour, where the students were given an overview of the centre’s facilities and research activities.

During the visit, the students had the privilege of witnessing various laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technology used for DNA analysis. They interacted with the scientists and researchers at CDFD, who shared their knowledge and experiences regarding DNA fingerprinting techniques. The students learned about the applications of DNA fingerprinting in forensic science, paternity testing, and genetic research. The visit to CDFD provided a practical understanding of the concepts taught in their curriculum and exposed them to the latest developments in the field.

Day 2 to Day 4: Tourist Attractions in Hyderabad
Apart from the industrial visit, the students also had the opportunity to explore the cultural and historical landmarks of Hyderabad. The following popular tourist attractions were included in the itinerary:

Charminar: The iconic monument of Hyderabad, Charminar, was the first stop on the second day. Students marvelled at the architectural brilliance of this historical structure and learned about its cultural significance.

Snow World: The visit to Snow World offered a unique experience to the students as they enjoyed the thrill of the snow-clad environment, engaging in various snow activities and rides. It provided a refreshing break from the scorching summer heat.

Golconda Fort: Known for its grandeur and historical significance, Golconda Fort was a highlight of the tour. The students explored the massive fort complex, learned about its architectural features, and enjoyed panoramic views of the city from the top.

Salarjung Museum: The Salarjung Museum houses an extensive collection of art, artifacts, and historical items. The students had the opportunity to appreciate the diverse exhibits, including sculptures, paintings, textiles, and weaponry, showcasing India's rich cultural heritage.

Ramoji Film City: The visit to Ramoji Film City provided insights into the world of Indian cinema. The students witnessed various film sets, experienced behind-the-scenes activities, and learned about the filmmaking process.


Industrial visit to M/s. Axxonet Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore
Date: 12th and 13th April 2022
An industrial visit was organised on 12th and 13th April 2022 for the IV semester Forensic Science UG students. The purpose was to provide hands-on training to techniques involved to Forensic Psychology. The firm M/s. Axxonet Pvt. Ltd., is a leading provider for service requirements to Forensic Psychology. The resource persons in the institute explained the concepts of the tools and techniques to the visiting students. Following the orientation, the students were provided with hands-on training on polygraph and Brian Electrical Oscillation System (BEOS) with student volunteers.

The questioning pattern, the techniques used and the problems one can face during the procedures were clearly explained. The students could perform the techniques on their own and learn the concepts in a practical fashion.


Industrial visit to Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, JSS Medical College, Mysore
Date: 7th June 2022
An industrial visit was organised on 7th June, 2022 for the VI semester Forensic Science UG students. The purpose was to provide exposure to autopsy procedures and hands-on training to forensic instrumentation. The department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology performs autopsies in criminal cases on a regular basis. The autopsy procedure is part of the curriculum to students pursuing forensic science. This exposure to the procedures involved was a learning experience to the students and could help them understand and correlate what they had learnt in classes.

The department in collaboration with the department of pharmacology also performs basic forensic testing in cases of drugs and poisoning. The students could also have hands-on training on the instrumentation available there. The students observed the working of High Performance Liquid Chromatography and the Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscope.
