On November 4, 2023, the dept. of Forensic Science, organized a lecture on international career opportunities titled "Pursuing Research Abroad" for the M.Sc. First and Third Semester Forensic Science students. The lecture was held online via the Zoom platform, featuring Ms. Renitta Ranjan Thottungal, a Doctoral researcher at Charles University, Prague, as the guest speaker. The event aimed to provide valuable insights and guidance to students interested in pursuing research opportunities abroad.

Ms. Renitta Ranjan Thottungal shared her knowledge and experiences with the attending students during the session. Her presentation covered various aspects of pursuing research abroad, including: She discussed the importance of choosing the right country and university for research, taking into consideration the field of study and personal preferences. Ms. Thottungal provided valuable insights into the admission process, scholarship opportunities, and securing funding for research projects. The speaker shared her experiences of adapting to a new academic and cultural environment, offering advice on making a successful transition. She discussed the diverse research opportunities available abroad and how to identify and approach potential advisors or mentors. Ms. Thottungal highlighted the significance of building networks and collaborations with peers, professors, and professionals in the field. She provided insights into the career prospects and the benefits of international research experience for personal and professional growth.


Career Orientation session on "Career Opportunities in Digital Forensics"

The Department of Forensic Science at Kristu Jayanti College organized the first expert talk of the academic year 2023-2024 on January 21, 2023, focusing on "Career Opportunities in Digital Forensics." Conducted online via Zoom, the session featured Mr. Piyush B Thakur, a distinguished Security Consultant from IBM X Force Red VMN, IBM India Private Limited, Hyderabad.

Mr. Thakur commenced the lecture on August 5, 2023, by introducing the concept of digital forensics and its crucial role in today's technology-driven landscape. The discussion covered the identification, preservation, and analysis of electronic evidence for uncovering cybercrimes and supporting legal proceedings. Mr. Thakur explored diverse career opportunities within digital forensics, such as digital forensic investigator, incident responder, penetration tester, malware analyst, and cybersecurity consultant. He discussed the potential for growth and specialization within the field, concluding the session with an interactive question and answer round.


Career Orientation session on ‘Pursuing further studies abroad in Forensic Science’

The department of Forensic Science organized a career orientation session for the students of the department on 21st January 2023 on the topic “Pursuing further studies abroad in Forensic Science”. The session was conducted online over the ZOOM platform.

Ms. Shreya Gokula Saravanan, laboratory Technician at XYFIL Ltd, United Kingdom was the resource person for the session.

Ms.Shreya Gokula Saravanan, a laboratory Technician at XYFIL LTD in the United Kingdom, took the session forward with her valuable guidance and advice on pursuing an abroad education for a Master's Programme in the United Kingdom. She completed her postgraduate studies in Forensic Biology at the University of Strathclyde. Her information about courses abroad was very helpful, and she also assisted students in providing an outlook on the student visa, housing, and research experience. The session was really productive and informative. In the end, the session was opened for queries and each and every question asked was taken up positively and appropriate answers were provided.

The students could get introduced to procedural ideas of getting further study program admission at foreign universities. Many doubts regarding the scope, cost, and processes were answered through the session.


Career Orientation session on ‘Pursuing further research in Forensic Science’

The department of Forensic Science organized a career orientation session for the students of the department on 21st January 2023 on the topic “Pursuing further research in Forensic Science”. The session was conducted online over the ZOOM platform.

Ms. Akshita Verma, Ph.D. research scholar, at Florida International University, USA was the resource person for the session.

Ms. Akshita Verma is a doctoral student and graduate teaching assistant at the University of Florida. She was also a lecturer at Jain University Bangalore and a Junior Adjunct Faculty member at SIFS in New Delhi. Following her basic introduction, she discussed how to systematically plan to pursue a Ph.D. at Florida University. Ma'am described the academic curriculum, teaching methodologies, extracurricular activities, research work, and application process at the university. During the question and answer session, Madam explained the visa procedure, the time required for the visa process, and the important exams that students must take, such as TOEFL, IELTS, and GRE.

The students could get introduced to procedural ideas of getting a research post at foreign universities. Many doubts regarding the scope, cost, and processes were answered through the session.

Career orientation program - ‘Build your career in Forensic Science’

A career orientation programme titled ‘Build your career in Forensic Science’ was organized for the IV and VI semester BSc Forensic Science on 24th February, 2022 9AM. The resource persons of the session were faculty members of the Unit of Forensic Science at Kristu Jayanti College, Bangalore. The objective of the session was to enlighten the students about the different career opportunities available and provide tips and ideas to prepare, seek and attempt for the different opportunities available.

Session 1 on ‘Opportunities for higher education and jobs’ was handled by Mr. Don Caeiro and Mr. Jeremiah Justus M. During the first half of the session Mr. Don explained to the students about the different options available for pursuing higher studies in Forensic science both in India and abroad. The strengths of different courses, their weaknesses, possible outcomes etc. were presented in detail. In the next half of the session Mr. Jeremiah introduced them to the recruitment rules, tips for seeking jobs, ways to prepare for jobs and how to choose jobs based on the student’s interests. A roadmap to start early in choosing jobs was explained.

Session 2 on ‘Competitive Exams and Research’ was handled by Ms. Chetna Tidke and Dr. Shayani Ghosh. Ms. Chetna listed the different competitive exams which are relevant to forensic science pursuing students. She listed the requirements, eligibility and weightage for FACT and FACT+ exams. Following that Dr. Shayani explained the process of preparing and clearing UGC NET JRF exams. She explained the procedure for PhD registration and elaborated the weightage involved in clearing JRF.

Guest lecture on the topic "Careers in Forensic Science (Forensic Examiner in USA)"
A guest lecture on the topic "Careers in Forensic Science (Forensic Examiner in USA)" was conducted on 27th November 2021 by the Unit of Forensic Science.

The resource person is a forensic examiner working at the Rapid City Police Department in South Dakota, USA who started her lecture by explaining her role as a Forensic examiner in the Rapid Police Department at South Dakota , USA. Further, she went on to describe how her journey started in Forensic Science and built her career on the same in USA. She then highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of being a student in India and pursing higher studies in USA with specific relation to Forensic Science and her role. She elaborately explained the complete process of joining such programmes and how to apply for jobs and how to manage both the studies and jobs in a country like USA by giving examples of different individuals.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive from the participating students and they expressed that the session was useful to them to plan their careers.


Guest Lecture on "Careers in Forensic Science - Forensic Journalism"
The Unit of Forensic Science, Department of Life Sciences at Kristu Jayanti College, Bangalore organized a guest lecture on "Careers in Forensic Science - Forensic Journalism" on 11th November, 2021. The session was conducted online and the participants were the students of BSc Forensic Science programme. The resource person Ms. Joulyn Kenny, Independent Forensic Consultant and HoD, UG Program at St. Paul's Institute of Communication Education, Mumbai delivered a lecture on the meaning, scope and significance of the field of Forensic Journalism. Ma'am used real-life case studies to highlight the need and processes of Forensic journalism. She also conveyed the prospect in the field and how it can be considered as a career opportunity for Forensic science graduates. Later the resource person also answered questions raised by the students and clarified them.

The session was overall well-received and understood by the participants and the students expressed that they were benefited greatly by the lecture.

International Expert lecture on Career Advancement in Forensic Science

An informative International Expert Lecture series was organized by unit of Forensic Science of Department of Life Sciences at Kristu Jayanti College through online platform on 28th of October 2020. Invitations were sent to second year students and first year students of Forensic Science by the Department. The expert lecture was conducted by the resource person, Mrs. Shraddha Nyati, Instructor, learntoupgrade, USA. The expert lecture was also graced by the presence of Dr. Elcey C. D, Head of the Department and other faculty members. The resource person highlighted the various career opportunities in the field of forensic science by giving examples of individuals who are working in those domains and the methods that they have taken to achieve those career options. The speaker encouraged the students to work hard and progress to a more specific area in forensic science that will help them build their careers in the field. The speaker also explained the fact that Forensic Science can be applied to almost any domain of working and the individual who has the knowledge of Forensic Science should be able to use this science in a versatile manner. The session was handled by Mr. Jeremiah Justus, Assistant professor, Kristu Jayanti College and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Don Caeiro, Assistant professor, Kristu Jayanti College.
