Best Practices

1. In-house Software Development
2. Industry Expert Training

1. In-house Software Development
Software applications related to the internal automation requirements are identified and student developers with the support of essential hardware and software components are engaged in Software Development Life Cycle activities such as Planning, Designing, Developing, Testing and Deployment. After the successful completion and deployment of the project, completion certificates duly signed by the Head of the Department and Principal are provided to the students.

Implementation
o Student are grouped in teams
o The teams are headed by the project faculty coordinator who will be the guide
o Once a project is initiated weekly meetings are conducted to monitor and review the progress
o After completion of the project, regression and user acceptance testing are conducted and this will be followed by the deployment and maintenance

Problems Encountered
• Lack of skillful students much to the expectations of the challenges prevailing in software development trends
• Upgraded hardware and software resources required for development
• Appropriate time duration

Outcome
• Analyze computer users' needs in order to design, construct, test and maintain computer application software or systems.
• The in-house software needs are given with the application-oriented support by our own student developers.
• With the experience gained in project development, students start their own start-ups after the completion of their course.

2. Industry Expert Training
Objectives:
• To specialize the students in advanced computing domain with respect to the use of various design, development and testing tools that are practiced in the Software Industry.
• To know the method of approach in developing web based and customized stand-alone applications.

The Context:
The Department always endeavors to bring in experts from the leading IT Industries to keep in pace with the technical uptrend progression of our students towards the evolving technologies.

The Practice:
Our curriculum is tuned to have advanced courses like Agile and DevOps, Software Testing Tools, J2EE, Python programming, IOT etc. The classes for the students who opted for these courses are conducted by experts from IT Industries from India and International countries too.

Execution:
Theory and practical sessions on the Agile and DevOps and Software Testing Tools courses were conducted.
1. Agile and DevOps: This is a core course for IV Sem MCA Students which covers the advanced concepts of Software development and it covers the methodologies and concepts of Agile programming practices. Our Students was given with the input from an International expert Mr. Srinivasan Sairam, Senior Software Engineering Manager, Accenture, Detroit, USA.
The course was coordinated by Dr. Velmurugan R and it was conducted through online mode for a period of 30 hours.
Total No., of Beneficiaries: 61 Students

2. Software Testing Tools: This is an elective course and about 41 students from IV Sem MCA and M.Sc., CS classes have opted for this. This course was conducted through online platform by Mr. Bala Raghavendra Y, Test Specification Specialist, Netcraftz, Bengaluru. Dr. Velmurugan R, Associate Professor of the department has coordinated the sessions and the practical hands-on input was given by the resource expert.
Total No., of Beneficiaries: 42 Students

Evidence of Success:
• The classes were very much appreciated by the students that they got a good exposure to the modern tools and technologies.
• The students could identify their domain where they could implement the fullest potential for a prolonged career existence and growth.
• Few students who are in software development shared their experience of experiencing the technologies taught by these experts during the course of their internship and job.

Problems Encountered and Resources required:
• Since the sessions were conducted through online there was a slight chance of students losing concentration in due course of the sessions.
• Also, the practical sessions which needs to be given with individual attention was not possible through the online mode of teaching learning.
