Faculty Development Programme on Qualitative Research in Social Sciences

Department of Social Work, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) conducted a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Qualitative Research in Social Sciences on 10th to 14th June, 2024. The programme was conducted on virtual mode. The programme was planned and executed by the faculties of Social Work. The session was started with a welcome address and Introduction to FDP on Qualitative Research by Dr.Jonas Richard A, Head of the Department followed by Fr Joshy Mathew’s Inaugural address. The objective of the programme was to provide practical experiences to the delegates on qualitative Research methods and its implication in Social Sciences. Total 121 participants and delegates attended this from different parts of the country and from Kristu Jayanti College. Both the resource persons took the sessions on process, and methods of qualitative research and its application to the fields of social sciences. All the participants expressed their thanks and gratitude to Dept. of Social work and Resource persons as well. They also shared their experiences and raised questions related to qualitative research design. All the doubts on qualitative research were addressed and cleared with proper information and data. The outcome of the programme was to develop a good insight and understanding on use of qualitative research methods in the fields of Social Sciences. The FDP programme was a successful one.

Objective: To develop necessary knowledge and skills to monitor, analyze and improve the academic progress of the students Department of Social Work
The Department of Social Work, Kristu Jayanti College, organized a FDP on Basic Academic Mentoring Skills and the FDP was facilitated by Dr. K. Sekar, Registrar, NIMHANS. This FDP was mainly focused on improving the skill and knowledge in the area of mentoring of the students. Academic mentoring is a long process that is involved with developmental relationships between the mentor and mentee. The mentee are being supported by the mentor who has possessed in-depth knowledge, skills and experience in the specific field.
The session started with a formal welcome address by the official from NIMHANS. The session was initiated by Dr K Sekar. He initiated his discussion in explaining the mentoring cycle which involved the specific techniques in the process. He highlighted the best practices in academic mentoring and how effectively teachers can contribute to sustain the relationship with the students which will enable the students to be successful in their life.
The FDP ended with the concluding remarks given by Fr. Josekutty PD, Principal, Kristu Jayanti College. The participants have provided positive feedback and received overwhelming response.
