The Office of International and Domestic Relations and Department of English, Kristu Jayanti College Autonomous, in collaboration with Space for Children in Education, Art and Development (SCEAD), celebrated International Day of Peace on September 21, 2022.
His Excellency Alfonso Tagliaferri, Consul General of Italy was the guest of honour. Mr. Harsh Vardhan Umre, IRS, Commissioner of Customs and GST, Government of India and Mr. Siju Thomas Daniel, Director, SCEAD International, also graced the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, His Excellency Alfonso Tagliaferri emphasised that diplomacy encouraged dialogue and as a representative of the same, urged for the 'end of racism,' which is the theme for this year's International Day of Peace. He implored all to appreciate the United Nation's efforts to promote peace and environmental stability.
Mr. Harsh Vardhan Umre, IRS Commissioner of Customs and GST, an advocate for Human Rights and Earth Rights and founder of 'Ahimsa,' accentuated the necessity for peace in our era of ethnic and racial prejudices.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine George, Principal, Kristu Jayanti College, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel P J, Director, Kristu Jayanti College of Law and Office of International and Domestic Relations, Dr. Lyola Thomas, Coordinator, Department of English (PG), Prof. Stephen Deepak, Coordinator, Office of International and Domestic Relations and Mr. Jeremiah Bradshaw, Hospitality Professional and Volunteer with SCEAD International were also present on the occasion.
The national anthems of Italy and India were played to instill a feeling of unity amongst all. The Consul General of Italy also planted a sapling on the premises of Kristu Jayanti College to commemorate the occasion of International Day of Peace.
