Programme Overview
MSc Biochemistry is a 2 year programme spanning across 4 semesters offered by the Department of Life Sciences under the Deanery of Science. The programme comprises of theory papers in Biophysical and Bio–organic chemistry, Analytical Biochemistry, Physiology, Nutrition, Enzymology, Metabolism, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Physiology, Plant Physiology, Biochemical Genetics, Biotechnology, Immunology and Toxicology. The students secure practical knowledge in General Biochemistry, Immunochemical & Biochemical techniques, Enzymology, Clinical Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering and Protein chemistry and also includes execution and submission of a discipline specific project. Biochemistry has a central role in life sciences and biochemical approaches are often fundamental in illuminating the causes of diseases and has created conceivable outcomes for new pharmaceutical products and therapeutic practices that will impact the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human ailments. Almost all areas of life sciences are being uncovered and developed by biochemical methodology and research.
A postgraduation in Biochemistry paves the way for job opportunities in both private and public sector which includes Biotechnology, Food and Drink industries, Industrial Laboratories, Drug and Chemical manufacturing companies, Public Health Entities, Blood Service, Cancer research institutes, Research Departments, Educational Institutes, Environmental Pollution Control, Agriculture and Fisheries, Forensic Science, Hospitals, Medical Instrument companies, Public Health Laboratories, Quality control and Safety Departments of food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic industries.
Eligibility
B.Sc Degree of a recognized University with 50% marks in the aggregate of all subjects and 50% marks in Chemistry or Biochemistry (as cognate subject) and studied Biology at PUC or 10+2 level.
Graduates who have completed B.Sc., Biochemistry B.Sc., Genetics B.Sc., Biotechnology B.Sc., Animal Sciences B.Sc., Microbiology/Environmental Sciences B.Sc., Bioinformatics B.Sc., Zoology B.Sc., Applied Chemistry B.Sc., Food Science and Nutrition B.Sc., Chemistry B.Sc., Botany B.Sc., Clinical Lab Technology B.Sc., Medical Lab Technology, All Branches in Life Sciences and who have studied Chemistry or Biochemistry compulsorily as cognate subject are eligible to apply.
