The session held revolved about capital markets in India. It also threw light upon how capital markets help students at a young age on investment opportunities in India. Mr Thejas N spoke about the importance of Depository Systems and advantages of Depository. The session covered the following:

Mr. Himanshu emphasized that the students have to be SMART (i.e. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) when they are trading in the markets. He discussed about different investment opportunities available in India.

Mr. Thejas N spoke about NSDL and he shared inputs to students on how to create a DEMAT account and many strategies were discussed on efficient and effective trading in the markets. He explained how Depository system works in India and discussed about importance and advantages of depository.

OUTCOME: Students found the sessions to be extremely useful and they understood that savings and investments are very important at middle age. They posed several questions to the guests and all the doubts were addressed by the speakers.


GUEST LECTURE – TIPS TO PREPARE FOR ACCA EXAMS

Name and details of the resource person: Ms. REMI ANN MATHEW, Certified Chartered Accountant

Ms. Remi mainly focused her session on the mode of preparation for the ACCA exams. She shared her personal experiences on her journey to becoming a Certified Chartered Accountant and also achieving the first rank at the national level as well as the fourth position in the global ranking for the subject Advanced Financial Management.

Tips for clearing ACCA Exams: She also shared important tips for preparations for ACCA examinations such as
1. Concentration on lecture notes and improved focus on preparation of short notes for study.
2. Emphasis on Time management
3. Dedicated practice of Mock test papers and Revision test papers.
4. Concentrate on answering to the point rather than increasing the length of the content.
5. Avoid last moment preparation and have a consistent study pattern.

OUTCOME: Students found the sessions to be extremely useful and felt that it was like an awakening call- a call for hard work and dedication, patience and perseverance. They posed several questions to the guest and all the doubts were addressed by the speaker.

Objective: To create awareness on New Investment Avenues
Name and details of the: Mr. K. Kiran Kumar, Resource person Investors Club- Coordinator

Mr. K. Kiran Kumar led the session on Insight of Bitcoin and Training on Stock market trading in indian stock market. First, he spoke about truth of Bitcoing and future of this investment followed with drawbacks of bitcoing, why we should not invest in bitcoin exchange and why it was banned in India. Second, He discussed about Mutual funds and security analysis for selecting a stock before investment. Finally session was end with doubts rose by students.

Outcome:
Students gain the knowledge about crypto currency (Bitcoin exchange) and insight on what are the problems faced by an investor if he/she invest in the bitcoin exchange.
Students acquired more information about mutual funds and security analysis.

Mr. Himanshu Srivastav spoke about Securities Markets in India and discussed about different investment opportunities. He started session on history and achievements of NSE in different segments. He also spoke about major stock exchanges in India followed by Investment opportunities for an investor and also explained about investor perception regarding investments. All these were really knowledgeable to all the students and made them to know many facts about stock market and students were enjoyed the session. He spoke about different NCFM Modules and he told how these modules helps to the students in future. Finally he concluded session with doubts when students rose.

Mr. Thilak Raj and Mr. G.Vijay Raghavan spoke about Capital Markets in India and how to invest, where to invest and what are the precautions before investing.

Firstly Mr. Thilak Raj, who was Regional in-charge of BSE (IPF) Ltd., Karnataka. He spoke about BSE and brief introduction on it. He showed some videos on Traditional Trading which was followed by BSE before 1996 and said some physical signs they used before when trading. This helped a lot in knowing more about each trade practices.

Mr. G.Vijaya Raghavan, who was Managing Director of Stockathon Academy, spoke about investment precautions. He started session with small quiz which was very interesting to the students. Winners of the quiz were rewarded with many gift vouchers. He also spoke about Investment procedures, how to invest, where to invest and when to invest.

Finally they said how investment, trading makes us to have a better future and how youngsters earn through playing stock market and their interest in it.

All these were really knowledgeable to all the students and made them to know many facts about stock market and students were enjoyed the session.

About Stock markets in India: secondly he spoke about BSE and NSE Importance and features of stock exchanges. Furthermore, he explained on online trading process with live trading system and given examples and also discussed about different types of speculators in stock market. Mr. K. Kiran Kumar spoke about how to open account, how to add funds in to the trading account and discussed on how to trade in stock market lively.

How to open an account: He spoke about the procedure of opening an account with the registered broker and also said about how to add funds and how to withdraw funds from our brokerage accounts.

Trading Procedure: He also explained the trading procedure starting with selection of stock from the trading process end with settlement. Moreover, He spoke, how to buy and on what basis should we select stock, regarding this investors should consider the current environment or scenario before selling any kind of stock. Finally he was concluded with doubts session that rose by the students.


GUEST LECTURE - "LIFE'S NEXT CHAPTER - GLIMPSE INTO CORPORATE LIFE "

This guest lecture was focused and created with the goal of orienting the final year students with tools for refining their personal and professional excellence in corporate world.
• This session gave tips to students on how to become efficient through learning the basics of corporate communications, Preparations for Aptitude rounds, Resume and how to crack interview rounds.
She also focused on self-grooming and proper gestures, managing time and the mindset that is required for placements.
• Ms. Pearl also shared motivating tips of success to foster growth in one's career. She focused on 3 C’s to be more important- "Be courageous”, “Be civil" And "Be Candid". Corporates or Organizations specially look for the candidates those who possessed Technical Skills, Communication skills, Positive Attitude.
• The students actively participated in the guest lecture. The session was concluded with an interactive session termed as the ‘Panel Discussion’ where questions were posed to the resource person and suggestions and answers were given.


GUEST LECTURE - “PREPARING FOR THE CORPORATE WORLD”

Objective: To acquaint the students with the corporate culture and preparing them for a transition from campus to the corporate world.
Name and details of the resource person: Mr. Amarta Datta Gupta, presently working as the Chief Operating Officer - Ace Antenna India Pvt ltd.
Amarta Datta Gupta oriented the students on the following aspects:
• How to prepare for interviews.
• Frequently asked questions (FAQs) at Interview.
• Important points to be remembered as an interviewee.(Do’s and Don’ts)
• Expectations of the Corporate World.
The speaker also encouraged an interactive session by sharing his personal experiences and some of his personal challenges. The students were deeply inspired by his words of encouragement and hope to apply his valuable insights for future endeavour.

GUEST LECTURE on ACCA FUTURE PROSPECTS
Prof. Mohammed Sajid Khan, Head of International Development, ACCA addressed the first B.Com students on 21 June 2016 about the ACCA future prospects.

Mr. Khan highlighted the present scenario of an Accountant job. Unlike the olden times at present an accountant has got lot of respect, opportunity and reward. “A focused approach, to have regular schedule, and regular practice is essential for the budding accountants to be a competent accountant.” He added.



An interaction with Mr. Ravindran Balakrishnan, ACCA Professional from the ISDC
The department of commerce organized an interaction with Mr. Ravindran Balakrishnan, ACCA Professional from the ISDC on 14 July 2016. Mr. Balakrishnan Spoke about a career as an accountant and introduced the various areas of accounting, which includes- management, finance and statutory accounting. He also highlighted the necessity of ethics in accounting profession and briefed the students about how they must take up the ACCA exams and that they must keep themselves updated with the ACCA Global website.

Guest lecture on youth and ethics
The department of commerce organized a Guest lecture on youth and ethics held on 23 June 2014 for the undergraduate students. Mr. Samuel from Rhoumai Missions International addressed the grave reality of various social evils like pornography, addiction to drugs, and abortion among the student community.

“About 30 per cent of the world’s abortion happens in India of which 7000 babies are aborted in Bangalore per month and about 9 laky nationally. 50 per cent of these abortions happen to be girls between the age groups of 13-18, Mr. Samuel found out, according to the information of principals of many colleges in Bangalore. Many of these abortions happen in illegal clinics,” opined Mr. Samuel.

Mr. Samuel also elaborated on how students get addicted to drugs. He mentioned about the after effects of drugs. Students who are addicted to drugs are the one who lead to criminal activities in the society. He stressed on how drugs will lead to negative changes in relationships, violence, feeling of loneliness, stress, depression, injuries, accidents, damage to internal organs and risk of infectious diseases.

Department of Commerce (PG), organized a guest lecture for the M.com students on August 16, 2013. Prof. K. Kanishka, Head of department, BBM, St. Joseph’s Evening College addressed the students on public private partnership model.

He began the speech by defining PPP Model and explained the numerous variables involved in PPP Model. He also mentioned the potential benefits of the model which are: mobilization of more resources, cost effectiveness, accelerated delivery, reduces corruption and waste and enhanced social service.

“PPP Model will be successful only if certain essential factors are taken care of such as policy factors, transparency, cost and risk sharing arrangements,” Prof. Kanishka added.
