Value Added Course (VAC) on Professional Dossier And Ethics

The Department of Commerce (PG) organized a 30 hour Intensive Value Added Course (VAC) on Professional Dossier and Ethics during 22nd August, 2023 to 26th August, 2023 from 09.00 am to 3.30 pm in A2 Auditorium, III Floor, Admin Block for the benefits of I Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The primary purpose of this course is to supplement the students with the Principles, rules and regulations in the ethics of the professions. This VAC plays an important role in shaping the Professional life of individuals. This course provides the students a learning platform of acquiring knowledge and skills through activities on the importance of Professional ethics. The professional ethics is essential for building trust and credibility in corporate field. It also helps to maintain the integrity and reputation of the profession, and ensures that professionals are held to account for their actions.

This 30 hour Intensive VAC was effectively conducted with the objective of providing insights on professional ethics. The resource persons for the VAC sessions were Dr.Madhu Druva Kumar, Dr.T.K.Murugesan, Dr. Pushpa A, Dr.Cherian Thomas, Dr.Vidhya S and Dr.Mohankumar. Total 102 students (61 from I Sem M.Com & 41 from I Sem M.Com FA) attended this 30-Hour intensive course throwing a light on core principles, rules and regulations in professional dossier and ethics. The students of this course were effectively equipped with knowledge, and understanding on professional ethics.


Value Added Course (VAC) on Industry 5.0 in Financial & Banking Services

The Department of Commerce (PG) organized a 30-Hour Intensive Value Added Course (VAC) on Industry 5.0 in Financial & Banking Services during 28th July, 2023 to 2nd August, 2023 from 09.00 am to 3.30 pm in Class Room No.B508, IV Floor, Admin Block for the benefits of III Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The primary purpose of this course is to supplement the students with the knowledge, expertise and technology and exposures in the core domains of Industry 5.0 in financial and banking services. Industry 5.0 plays an important role in shaping the digital economy of the nation. This course provides the students a practical learning platform of acquiring knowledge and skills on the importance of Industry 5.0 in financial and banking services. Where Industry 4.0 focused on technologies such as the Internet of Things and big data, Industry 5.0 seeks to add human, environmental and social aspects back into the equation from the perspectives of financial and banking services.

This 30-Hour Intensive VAC was effectively conducted with the thrust of bridging the gap between academic and industry needs. The resource persons for the VAC sessions were Dr. Madhu Druva Kumar, Dr.Murugesan T K, Dr. Pushpa A, Dr.Cherian Thomas, Dr.Vidhya S and Dr.Mohankumar. Total 87 students (48 from III M.Com & 39 from III M.Com FA) attended this 30-Hour intensive course throwing a light on core principles, tools and techniques of Industry 5.0 in delivering financial and banking services rendered by the commercial banks and financial institutions in India. The students of this course were effectively equipped with technological knowledge, skills and exposures on Industry 5.0 in the field of finance, taxation, trading, accounting, and investment.

Value Added Course (VAV) on Corporate Etiquette And Professionalism

The Department of Commerce (PG) organized a 30-Hour Intensive Value Added Course (VAC) on Corporate Etiquette and Professionalism from 22nd to 30th August, 2022 from 09.00 am to 3.30 pm in Lecture Hall. B 402, IV Floor, Admin Block for the benefits of I Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The main objective of this VAC is to acquaint the students with communication skills, interview skills, presentation & public speaking skills, decision-making skills and life-skill education like time management, stress management, leadership qualities, etc. This VAC was conducted with the sole aim of bridging the gap between academic and industrial expectations in terms of employability skills and corporate etiquettes. The resource persons for the VAC sessions were Prof. Madhu Druvakumar, Dr.Murugesan T K, Dr. Krishnamoorthi M, Dr. Pushpa A, and Prof. Bharati Ranade. Total 86 students (49 from I M.Com & 37 from I M.Com FA) attended the 30-Hour intensive VAC on Corporate Etiquette and Professionalism. The participants of this course were effectively equipped with knowledge, skills, exposures and ethics of becoming real-time professionals in the corporate world.


Value Added Course (VAC) on Digital Transformation in Financial Services

The Department of Commerce (PG) organized a 30-Hour Intensive Value Added Course (VAC) on Digital Transformation in Financial Services from 5th to 17th August, 2022 from 09.00 am to 3.30 pm in Class Room No. B402 for the benefits of III Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The main objective of this course is to supplement students with the technological skills and exposures required for venturing into the financial digital services. Technology plays an important role in everybody’s professional and personal lives. This course provided the students a comprehensive view on various facets of financial technology in financial services such as an overview of digital financial services, Financial Technology (FinTech), Technology in Banking & Financial Sectors, Digital Financial Inclusion, Digital Financial Instruments, and Digital Channels in Financial Inclusion.

This VAC was conducted with the sole aim of bridging the gap between academic and technological needs.. The resource persons for the VAC sessions were Prof. Madhu Druvakumar, Dr.Murugesan T K, Dr. Krishnamoorthi M, Dr. Pushpa A, and Prof. Bharati Ranade. Total 70 students (30 from III M.Com & 40 from III M.Com FA) attended the 30-Hour intensive VAC on Digital Transformation in Financial Services. The participants of this course were effectively equipped with knowledge, skills and exposures on digital technology in the field of finance, accounting, investment and trade.

Department of Commerce PG conducted a 30-Hour intensive Value Added Course (VAC) on Personal Branding & Professional Development from 24th September – 01st October, 2021 via Zoom Application from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm for the benefits of I Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The main objective of this VAC was to acquaint the students with communication skills, interview skills, presentation & public speaking skills, decision-making skills and life-skill education like time management, stress management, leadership qualities, etc.


Value Added Course (VAC) on Fundamentals Of Fintech

Department of Commerce PG organized a 30-Hour intensive Value Added Course (VAC) on Fundamentals of FinTech from 9th to 19th August, 2021 via Zoom platform from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm for the benefit of III Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The main objective of this course is to supplement students with the technological skills and exposures required for venturing into a new Fintech, InsurTech start-ups.

Technology plays an important role in everybody’s life. Meet India's education finance start- ups making learning affordable for millions of students. The Indian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (IVCA) has identified ‘FinTech in Education’ as one of the top trends to watch out for. Financial Technology (FINTECH) start-ups in this segment are leading the ‘next wave of value creation’ in EDTECH. The Department of Commerce PG has taken cutting-edge initiatives to conduct Value Added Course on Fundamentals of FinTech to meet the thrust of students on financial technology skills.

This course provided the students a comprehensive view on various facets of financial technology in capital markets, FinTech advisory, Blockchain, Crowdfunding and fintech startups. This VAC was conducted with the sole aim of bridging the gap between academic and technological needs. This course has also thrown light on the basics of FinTech. The resource persons for the VAC sessions were Prof. Madhu Druvakumar, Dr.Murugesan T K, Dr. Krishnamoorthi M, Dr. Pushpa A, and Dr.Muhammad Ashiq.

Prof. Madhu Druvakumar gave some insights into the introduction of financial technology and the various types of FinTech. She also offered the students the knowledge on the evolution of FinTech.

Dr.T.K.Murugesan explicated about the Cryptocurrency and Blockchain. He also expounded other concepts on the future of Bitcoins in India, legalities and procedural norms followed.

Dr. Krishnamoorthi highlighted the technology in banking and insurance companies. He also enriched the students with knowledge on core banking solutions. Dr.Muhammad Ashiq expounded about the financial technology in capital market, India Stack. He also enlightened the students with the basic knowledge of virtual trade on capital market securities and mutual funds.

Dr. Pushpa shed light on the FinTech startups and Digital Economy in India by edifying the students with many real life examples. She also gave an insight on the major initiative taken by the government of India ‘Digital India’.

Value Added Course (VAC) on Personality Development & Soft Skills

Department of Commerce PG conducted a 30-Hour intensive Value Added Course (VAC) on Personality Development & Soft Skills from 14th – 25th September via Zoom Application from 9.15 am to 3.15 pm for the benefit of I Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The main objective of this VAC was to acquaint the students with communication skills, interview skills, presentation & public speaking skills, decision-making skills and life-skill education like time management, stress management, leadership qualities, etc.

Personality  development  and  soft  skills  are  two  essentials  for  enhancing  one’s organic growth and employability prospects. Personality is concerned with the psychological pattern of an individual—the thoughts, emotions and feelings—that are unique to a person. In fact, the inherent personality traits and the divergent soft skills interact with each other and would make a person what he or she is. It helps bring out a number of intrinsic qualities of a person in personal and professional lives. No matter where a person goes or what career plans they choose, if they don’t have a good personality, they will always lag behind others.

The Department of Commerce PG has taken ingenious efforts to conduct Value Added Course on Personality Development & Soft Skills to help students on their organic growth, employability and soft skills. On 14th August, 2020, the inauguration of Value Added Course began with a presidential address from Prof. Madhu Druvakumar, Co-ordinator, Commerce PG.

This course provided the students a comprehensive view on various facets of personality development and skills with a primary focus on the enhancement of holistic development of students fraternity. This VAC was conducted with the sole aim of orienting the students with a blend of personality development and divergent soft-skills which are highly required for their holistic growth in the ambit of personal and professional lives. The resource persons for the VAC were Prof. Madhu Druvakumar, Dr.Murugesan T K, Dr. Krishnamoorthi M, Dr. Pushpa A, Dr.Muhammad Ashiq.

Prof.Madhu Druvakumar explained about the significance of soft skills and self-discovery to the students with a comprehensive view on setting goals, beliefs, values and attitudes for achieving personal and professional growth. She also gave an insight on the notion of developing positivity to achieve a wholesome personality.

Dr.T.K.Murugesan explicated about the prominence of developing soft-skills set with the real-time examples on interview skills, presentation skills, business etiquette, etc. He also expounded other concepts like time management and essential tips for overcoming nervousness in the interview process.

Dr.Pushpa gave some insights into the interpersonal communication, team communication, non-verbal communication and group discussion with the primary focus on public speaking skills, body language, listening skills, formal writing skills, corporate communication styles, assertion, persuasion, and negotiation.

Dr. Krishnamoorthi highlighted the significance of decision-making and problem-solving skills and discussed the major ethical issues, problems and dilemmas in application of decision-making skills and problem-solving skills in day-to-day personal and professional life. He also enriched the students with knowledge and insights on the nature, types, causes of conflict, and methods of resolving conflicts in day-to-day life.

Dr.Muhammad Ashiq expounded about the significance of stress management and its implications with a broader view on nature of stress, symptoms of stress, causes of stress, and strategies for coping with stress. He also highlighted the importance of leadership qualities and assertiveness skills which are indispensable assets of being a successful leader.

Total 73 students (35 from I M.Com & 38 from I M.Com FA) attended the 30-Hour intensive VAC on Personality Development & Soft Skills. The participants of this course will be equipped with a plethora of soft skills and life-skill education like time management, stress management and leadership qualities. The outcome of this course enabled students' understanding of soft skills and employability skills required for holistic development of the student community. The participants felt that this course provided them a vibrant platform for acquiring a blend of personality, soft skills and competency required to be industry ready and friendly.


Value Added Course (VAC) On Venture Capital Management

Department of Commerce PG organized a 30-Hour intensive Value Added Course (VAC) on Venture Capital Management (VCM) from 3rd to 14th August, 2020 via Zoom platform from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm for the benefits of III Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The main objective of this course is to supplement students with the entrepreneurial skills and exposures required for venturing into a new business start-up.

Education plays an important role in everybody’s life. In race of making virtuous and bright career in a short span of time, most of the students have shown strong inclination of being a job provider than a job seeker. The Department of Commerce PG has taken cutting-edge initiatives to conduct Value Added Course on Venture Capital Management to meet the thrust of students on entrepreneurial skills. On 3rd August, 2020, the inauguration of Value Added Course began with a presidential address from Father Principal Rev. Dr. Augustine George and a key note address from Dr. Aloysius Edward, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management.

This course provided the students a comprehensive view on various facets of venture capital management with a primary focus on the avenues of raising funds for new business start-ups. This VAC was conducted with the sole aim of bridging the gap between academic and industry needs. This course has also thrown light on how to raise funds for new business start-ups. The resource persons for the VAC were Prof. Madhu Druvakumar, Dr.Murugesan T K, Dr. Krishnamoorthi M, Dr. Pushpa A, Dr.Muhammad Ashiq.

Dr. Pushpa gave some insights into the introduction of idea generation and the various types of new ventures. She also offered the students the knowledge on financing models and pros and cons of debt financing. Dr.T.K.Murugesan explicated about the role of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in eradicating social issues with live real-time examples on innovation and creativity. He also expounded other concepts like Bootstrapping and various forms of equity-based financing.

Dr. Krishnamoorthi highlighted the major initiatives taken by the Government of India to create new ventures. He also enriched the students with knowledge and skills on Crowd-funding and various kinds of financing models. Dr.Muhammad Ashiq expounded about the crux of the venture capital with a prime focus on the various stages required for entrepreneurs in raising venture capital funds. He also enlightened the students with the various forms of debt-based financing.

Prof.Madhu Druvakumar shed light on the origin and growth of venture capital and the scenario of venture capital in India by edifying the students with many real life examples. She also gave an insight on the notion of venture capital and importance of debt financing.

This course will provide participants with practical insights on a number of issues including:

  • Idea generation & launching a new venture.
  • The role of venture capitalists in financing and developing new business venture.
  • Sources of finance available in every stage of the business start-ups.
  • Origin and growth of venture capital in India.
  • Initiatives taken by Government of India for creating new ventures.

Total 98 students (58 from III M.Com & 40 from III M.Com FA) attended the 30-Hour intensive VAC on Venture Capital Management. The participants of this course will be equipped with entrepreneurial knowledge, skills and exposures on launching a new business venture and the role of venture capitalists in raising funds by entrepreneurs. The outcome of this course enabled students' understanding of the dynamic challenges faced by entrepreneurial ventures in securing financial backing to support future growth and development. The participants felt that this course provided them a vibrant platform for acquiring entrepreneurial skills and knowledge on setting up a new business venture and also a step-by-step procedure to raise funds for the growth of new business venture.
