National Ayurveda Day 2024
Date: 19 October 2024
In commemoration of National Ayurveda Day 2024, the Department of Life Sciences and Kristu Jayanti Centre for Indian Knowledge System, in collaboration with the University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology (TDU), organized an expert lecture series and a health camp aimed at promoting the principles of Ayurveda for holistic well-being. The health camp was inaugurated by the Vice Principal Dr Lijo P. Thomas and dignitaries from TDU and I-AIM and faculty and students of Kristu Jayanti College. Fr. Lijo, spoke about the relevance of Ayurveda in today’s fast-paced world and the need to reconnect with nature for overall health and wellness.

I-AIM Healthcare Centre, Bengaluru is an integrated healthcare center that blends traditional Ayurvedic wisdom with modern medical science. Specializing in holistic and preventive healthcare, I-AIM offers personalized treatments based on Ayurvedic principles such as Nadi Pariksha (pulse diagnosis) and Prakriti (body constitution) analysis. Dr. Poornima D., Joint Medical Director, I-AIM, delivered a lecture on “Wellness and Ayurveda.” She emphasized the importance of Swasthavritta (the Ayurvedic regimen for health preservation) in today’s times. She also highlighted the concept of wellness as a state of balance in body, mind, and spirit, elaborating on how Ayurveda views health not merely as the absence of disease but as a holistic integration of the individual with the environment. Drawing from the teachings of Charaka Samhita, Dr. Poornima stressed the significance of prevention, particularly through daily routines (Dinacharya) and seasonal regimens (Ritucharya). The talk resonated deeply with the audience, especially as Dr. Poornima connected the relevance of Ayurveda to modern challenges like stress, anxiety, and chronic diseases.

Following Dr. Poornima’s lecture, Dr. Sanket Sharma, Assistant Professor at University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology, delivered a compelling talk on “Ayurveda for the Prevention and Management of Nutritional Anemia”. Dr. Sanket delved into the Ayurvedic understanding of Panduroga (anemia) and its correlation with the depletion of Rasa Dhatu (the essence of nourishment). The camp provided students, faculty, and visitors with an opportunity to have their Prakriti (body constitution) analyzed and receive personalized health recommendations based on Ayurvedic principles. The camp featured Ayurveda practitioners offering free consultations, and there were stalls showcasing Ayurvedic herbs, medicines, and wellness products. The event saw the participation of over 100 beneficiaries. The event underscored the relevance of Ayurveda in today’s health landscape, echoing the teachings of the Sushruta Samhita: “Swasthasya swasthya rakshanam, aaturasya vikara prashamanam cha”– "to maintain the health of the healthy and to alleviate the diseases of the sick." The camp also served as an educational opportunity for the participants to gain insight into the ancient science of Ayurveda and its practical applications in daily life.
