Kristu Jayanti Centre for Indian Knowledge System (KJCIKS)

Kristu Jayanti Centre for Indian Knowledge System has been established as a Silver Jubilee Initiative of Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, Bengaluru during the academic year 2022-23. The main objective of the KJCIKS is to promote interdisciplinary research on all aspects of IKS, preserve and disseminate IKS for further research and societal applications.

Objectives of KJCIKS
1. To promote the rich heritage of our motherland and traditional knowledge in the field of Arts and literature, Basic Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities Life Sciences, and Management and Economics.
2. To promote Indian languages for the holistic development.
3. To address current and emerging challenges by applying the enduring wisdom of our ancient knowledge systems.

Activities of KJCIKS
KJCIKS, in collaboration with Karnataka Sanskrit University, Bengaluru and The University of Transdisciplinary Health Sciences and Technology, Bengaluru offered Bhartiya Knowledge System as a Skill Development Course under the National Education Policy 2020 curriculum framework. Launched in the academic year 2023-24, this course has already benefitted 5,022 second-year undergraduate students.

The curriculum is enriched with insights into the traditional knowledge systems of our country, emphasizing their significance. It covers the conventional framework of the Indian Medical System, the therapeutic specialties of Ayurveda, and strategies for conserving medicinal plants. The course also explores the relationship between traditional and western knowledge, the history and development of Ayurveda in India, Ayurvedic literature, body-mind types and their implications for healthcare, as well as India's wealth of medicinal plants. The course is further enhanced with comprehensive and interactive learning content and video presentations by experts in the field.

In addition, KJCIKS, in collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences, maintains a Smart Medicinal Garden. This garden features over 600 Indian medicinal plants, each identified with a QR code for easy access to detailed information.

Prof T V Kattimani, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh delivered a session on ‘Bharatiya Knowledge System in Higher Education’ on February 24, 2024 to our students.
