SGPA, CGPA and Grading Table

The individual semester/trimester marks card will have the marks, grade, total credits awarded and grade point average details.

  • Grade Point: It is a numerical weight allotted to each letter grade on a 10-point scale
  • Credit Point: It is the product of grade point and number of credits for a course.
  • Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA): It is a measure of performance/work done in a semester. It is a ratio of total credit points secured by a student in various courses registered in a semester and the total course credits taken during that semester. It is depicted in the semester marks card.
  • SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average)
SGPA = ∑(Grade Point x Credit) / Total No. of Credits
  • CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average)
CGPA = ∑(Si x Ti) / ∑Ti where Si denote the SGPA for the ith semester and Ti denote the Total Credits of the ith semester, (value of i ranges from 1 to 6).
