51st editionVichaarmanthan: An Interaction with Global and Indian Visionaries

On February 3rd, 2025, the Department of Physical Sciences at Kristu Jayanti College hosted the 51st edition of the Vichaarmanthan interactive program in Jubilee Auditorium from 11 A.M. to 12:30 P.M., featuring Dr. K. Sivan, former Secretary of the Department of Space, Chairman of ISRO, and Chairperson of the Board of Governors at IIT Indore. The Vichaarmanthan series allows students to engage with global and Indian visionaries, offering valuable insights into various facets of education, technology, and society.

Dr. Sivan delivered an enlightening lecture that captivated the audience, sharing his journey from his educational background to his pivotal role in ISRO. He spoke passionately about India’s self-reliance in space technology, with ISRO’s projects spanning communication, space exploration, and Earth observation through satellites. He emphasized the role of ISRO in serving humanity. Dr. Sivan then delved into some of the exciting future missions ISRO is undertaking. These included the ongoing Chandrayaan-4 mission, which aims to bring samples from the moon to Earth for further research, and the ambitious plans for sending an Indian astronaut to the moon with the “Man on the Moon” mission. He also touched on upcoming missions to Venus and Mars, exploring the potential for interplanetary travel and exploration. He also discussed recent developments in India’s space sector, particularly the government's initiative to allow private companies to develop their rockets, marking a significant shift towards collaboration between public and private entities in space exploration. He inspired students to step into the world, and face and embrace challenges. He also quoted, “The skill of a pirate is found only when he sails in troubling times”, urging them to take on difficult projects and turn them into success. Dr. Sivan’s address further highlighted the importance of tenacity and innovation in overcoming obstacles.

A total of 1200 students attended the program and shared highly positive feedback, reflecting the impact and inspiration they drew from Dr. Sivan’s insightful lecture. The session proved to be a memorable and enriching experience for all, further igniting the spirit of scientific curiosity and exploration among the students.


Aurora, An E-Poster design competition (Anti-Ragging Week 12-16 August 2024)

The Department of Physical Sciences is organizing an innovative e-poster design competition, "Aurora," focused on the pivotal theme of "Anti-Ragging: Isn't it kind?" This event aims to encourage Physical Sciences students to creatively express their thoughts and ideas on the significance of preventing ragging and promoting a culture of kindness.

Scheduled to take place on August 16, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the M1 Lab, First Floor, Main Block. This competition invites individual participants to showcase their design skills. To ensure a level playing field, participants are required to create their posters from scratch, without using pre-made templates.

The competition guidelines specify that participants can utilize any design platform of their choice, adhering to the prescribed aspect ratios (9:16/16:9). To maintain the integrity of the competition, any form of malpractice will result in disqualification. The judges' decisions will be final and binding.

Participation certificates were awarded to all participants, while the top three winners received appreciation certificates.

By organizing this competition, the Department of Physical Sciences aims to foster a culture of empathy, kindness, and respect among students, while encouraging creativity and self-expression.


Indian Knowledge System - Vedika Vichara

The Department of Physical Sciences successfully organized an event titled Vedika Vichara focusing on the Indian Knowledge System. The objective of this event was to promote awareness and understanding of India's rich intellectual heritage and its applications in modern times. The event was structured into two engaging rounds, aimed at encouraging participants to delve deep into India's ancient wisdom and its relevance in contemporary life.

Round 1: Quiz on Indian Knowledge System
The first round was a quiz that tested participants' knowledge on various aspects of the Indian Knowledge System, covering topics such as Indian philosophy, science, art, and culture. Totally 18 participants took part, showcasing their enthusiasm and expertise in the subject. After a competitive round, 8 participants were selected to move forward to Round 2.

Round 2: Lecture Contest
In the second round, the selected participants presented lectures on one of the following topics:
1. Application of Ancient Indian Martial Arts in Modern Self Defence and Fitness Training
2. Ayurveda and Holistic Health in the 21st Century
3. The Evolution of Indian Classical Music in Contemporary Soundscapes
4. Ancient Indian Astronomy and its Relevance to Modern Space Science
5. Architecture (Vastu Shastra) and its Relevance in Modern Urban Planning
6. Ancient Indian Textiles and Modern Sustainable Fashion
7. Yoga: Ancient Philosophy and its Global Impact Today
8. The Evolution of Indian Dance and its Role in Modern Storytelling

The lecture contest aimed to deepen the participants' exploration of how these ancient Indian disciplines continue to influence modern society across various fields such as health, music, science, and architecture.

Vedika Vichara proved to be an enlightening and thought-provoking experience for all, strengthening the connection between ancient Indian wisdom and contemporary practices.


Ideathon 2024
Date: 03 & 06 September 2024
The Department of Physical Science successfully organized Ideathon 2024 in collaboration with the Kristu Jayanti Incubation Center and the Institution Innovation Council. This initiative aimed to foster a culture of innovation and problem-solving, emphasizing creativity, teamwork, and the capacity to tackle pressing real-world challenges.

The Ideathon comprised two rounds: the Idea Generation Round and the Presentations Round, held on September 3rd and 6th, 2024 at the Board Room from 10 am to 12 pm. Under the guidance of a panel led by Dr.Ramanathan, 24 students participated in four teams. The best ideas from this event were nominated for the Smart India Hackathon 2024, showcasing the innovative spirit and dedication of our students.
