Workshop ‘Why Spin’

The Department of Political Science organized a workshop on ‘Why Spin’ in collaboration with Let’s Spin Organization. In honor of Gandhi Jayanti, we held a workshop focused on the art of spinning using the charkha, a symbol of self-reliance and craftsmanship that Mahatma Gandhi passionately advocated. The event brought together participants of all ages to explore the rich history and significance of the charkha in India's struggle for independence. Led by experienced artisans, the workshop provided hands-on training in the spinning process, allowing students to connect with this traditional craft and understand its cultural importance. Participants learned about the various techniques of spinning cotton, the intricacies of the charkha, and the values of sustainability and self-sufficiency that Gandhi championed. The atmosphere was filled with creativity and camaraderie as everyone shared stories and insights. This enriching experience not only honored Gandhi's legacy but also fostered a deeper appreciation for Indian heritage and artisanal skills.


Workshop on “Educating Youth for Climate Action”

The Department of Political Science conducted a workshop on “Educating Youth for Climate Action” featured Dr. A Srinivasacharlu, Faculty, Department of Education, Sri Sarvjna College of Education, Vijayanagar, Bengaluru, as the guest speaker. With over 30 years of teaching experience and expertise in research and editing various journals, Dr. Srinivasacharlu aimed to raise awareness about climate issues and instill a sense of responsibility towards environmental stewardship among the youth. The session commenced with an engaging quiz that explored the symbolism of nature, followed by a survey assessing climate change awareness among participants. The workshop highlighted the crucial roles of organizations such as IPCC, WMO, UNEP, and CEE in climate mitigation and recommended the use of water-efficient C4 plants and alternative eco-friendly methods to reduce fossil fuel emissions.


Poster Making Competition - In Observance of the International Day of Democracy 2024

Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) in collaboration with the Department of Political Science organise Poster Making Competition in observance of the International Day of Democracy 2024 on 15th and 16th September 2024. It aimed to foster awareness about Democratic values and principles. Students of various departments submitted numerous innovative posters via google form. The event actively involved the students to understand about the significance of Democracy and being citizens of the state their role in the strengthening of Democracy in modern India.


Interaction with Retd. Civil Service

The Department of Political Science (PG) organized an Interaction Session for MA Public Administration students with V Balasubramanian, retired civil servant, and currently serving as advisor to the Supreme Court of India. The session provided valuable insights into the “Role of Youth in Nation-building”, with the guest sharing personal experiences and perspectives on civic engagement and leadership. His talk highlighted how young people can actively contribute to national progress, providing students with valuable perspectives on their potential impact in public affairs. The session was followed by a dynamic question-and-answer segment where students engaged directly with Mr. Balasubramanian, further exploring his perspectives on how young people can actively contribute to national progress.


‘Reminiscing the legacy of Indian Freedom Fighters’

The Department of Political Science conducted an event on ‘Reminiscing the legacy of Indian Freedom Fighters’ in which the students presented about the event and struggle of those freedom fighters who are in shady area. Ten students participated in this and each of them showcased unsung heroes of freedom struggle who are unknown to world but played a significant role in the independence. It was just not confined to political narrative but also at social reform level. It was beneficial for the students as they came across those forgotten leaders who has eloped from the pages of freedom struggle. It ignited the minds of students. The event brought together faculty and students, promoting unity and appreciation for India’s Independence. It was a thought-provoking and inspirational experience, in line with the college's goal of fostering holistic development and intellectual curiosity.


Value-Added Course on “Basics of Research Methodology”

The Department of Political Science (PG) organized Value-Added Course on “Basics of Research Methodology” for I Semester MA Public Administration from 08th to 13th August, 2024. The course was delivered by Dr. Kaveri Swami, Dr. SJ Michael, Prof. Ramya B, Dr. Deekshith Kumar Dr. Loitongbam Jaya Devi, Prof. Riddhi Sanyal and Prof. Anjali Bajaj. The course provided an introductory knowledge of the importance of research, focusing on the fundamentals of research methodology. Students learned how to systematically approach research, explored various research designs and methods specific to social sciences, and understood their applications and limitations


Value Added Course on Foundations of Public Administration

The Department of Political Science Organized Value Added Course titled “Foundations of Public Administration” for V Semester BA HSPS/PSSO students from 24th to 30th July 2024. This course gave a bird view of the basic concepts of Public Administration, its role and significance in the contemporary political system. The principles of organization and various aspects of personnel administration motivated to our students to take up Civil Service exams and to serve the civil society in future.


Value-Added Course on “An Introduction to International Organizations”

The Department of Political Science (PG) organized Value-Added Course on “An Introduction to International Organizations” for III Semester MA Public Administration from 25th to 29th July, 2024. The course was delivered by Dr. Loitongbam Jaya Devi, Prof. Riddhi Sanyal and Prof. Anjali Bajaj. The course provided a detailed knowledge of major International and Regional Organizations, focusing on their roles and functions in the global arena. By examining the structures, objectives, and impacts of these organizations, the course offered valuable insights into how they influence international relations and contribute to global governance.

The students gained valuable insights into how international and regional organizations work. This understanding is crucial for future public administrators who will interact with these organizations in their careers. The course helped students better grasp the global institutions and their roles in solving international issues


Orientation Program on MA Public Administration

The department of Political Science (PG) conducted an Orientation program by the students of the PG department, Public Administration for the UG students on 18th April, 2024.

The Orientation was formally addressed by Public Administration 2nd sem student- Marietta Manu. The report was prepared and presented displaying the activities done so far under the PG department. It included the Research work, Book Publication, Field visit, skill development course, soft skill training, expert talks, student’s presentation,international conference, panel discussion and alumni talk, orientation on competitive Exam and many more. It also included the briefing upon the various papers which the students have to study under the PG course.Later, a discussion followed where the importance, scope and significance of the course was explained to the students. It served two main skill developments of the students overall, firstly the formal conduct of how to present the report and secondly the whole process of designing and framing and presenting the report. Overall the session was a successful and enlightning one.


Magazine - DEJUR release

The department of Political Science (PG) released the magazine - DEJURE by MA Public Administration II Sem on 18th April, 2024.

The Magazine - DEJURE was formally addressed by a welcome speech by Spandana (2nd Year MA Pub Ad) followed by a report presentation which showcased the glimpse of the DEJURE- PG department activities and skill enhancement program conducted throughout the academic year 2023-2024. Sungya Khullo(2nd year MA Pub Ad) gave a brief write up about the events and shared her experience as an editor of the magazine. The glimpse of the report showcased the expert talks, student’s presentation, field trips, international conference, book publication, NIAS conference, face mask making, game show, panel discussion and alumni talk. It served two main skill developments of the students overall, firstly the formal conduct of how to release and present the report and secondly the whole process of designing and framing the magazine. The team work and dedication was visible and students enjoyed the entire journey of making and releasing the magazine of the Department of Political Science (PG MA Public Administration) first newsletter- DEJURE. The chief guest of the event, Fr. Joshy Mathew followed by Dean of Humanities, Dr. Gopakumar A V gave a presidential address and appreciated the department’ effort and student’s dedication.


Annual Newsletter “Defacto-24 release

The department of Political Science released its much-anticipated annual newsletter “Defacto-24” on 18th April 2024, in the presence of Reverend Father Joshy Mathew, Director HR, Head of the Department of English, and Dr. Gopakumar A.V., Dean, Faculty of Humanities.

Based on the theme of Sustainable Development, the “Defacto-24: Desarrollo Sustentavel” encapsulates a diverse array of content, ranging from insightful messages to captivating vox populi, thought-provoking articles, evocative poetry, and an engaging creative corner. It serves as a platform for students to articulate their opinions, share their thoughts, and express their ideas, thereby fostering a vibrant intellectual exchange within the department.

The vibrant pages of "Defacto-24: Desarrollo Sustentavel" bear testimony to the collaborative efforts of the Political Science Student’s Club Coordinators, Laya Gopal and Sharon Sabastin. Their dedication has transformed a vision into reality, inspiring a culture of excellence within the department.


Expert Talk on e-Governance for MA Public Administration

The department of Political Science (PG) organized Expert Talk on e-Governance for MA Public Administration II Sem on 05th April, 2024.

The Expert Talk was formally addressed by a welcome speech by Prof. Anjali Bajaj, with a brief introduction about the resource person Dr. Shivprasad, Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Accounting. In the session, the resource person talked about E-governance, Information Technology Act 2000, Impact of Digitalization, NIC and 31 Mission Mode Project. Some of the topics were new for the students. So it widened their scope of learning. The students were enlightened of how E-governance can bring positive impact and benefits in the nation. The idea of e- Governance, it working, implementation, initiatives, creativity, outcomes and challenges are vast. The students were able to incorporate the entire foundation of such initiative under Good Governance and the loopholes as well. The disadvantages and drawbacks are something to be comprehensively studied thus giving the students the scope of researching in this area as well. Few questions were raise during the Q&A and the Discussion seemed fruitful to the students. This was followed by a vote of thanks done by Prof. Jaya Devi. At the end of the session, a group photo was clicked; which include the resource person, the faculties in charge and the students.


Alumni Talk on Recent Trends in Financial Administration

The department of Political Science (PG) organized Alumni Talk on recent trends in financial administration for MA Public Administration II Sem on 05th April, 2024.

"Recent Trends in Financial Administration" was the topic of an alumni talk hosted by the Department of Political Science (PG). Alex Goulian served as the master of ceremonies for the session. Vyshnavi Menon gave a welcome speech, and then Rebecca Sharon, the resource person, spoke about "The Recent Trends in Financial Administration," covering subjects like Major Financial Management Trends of 2023 and their subtopics like Block chain, the rise in demand for financial management, the importance of data analysis, and the use of artificial intelligence in financial administration. It was useful insights for the students to understand the scope and vitality of financial administration as a foundation chain in any sphere. The students understood the process through which an administration can built upon with strong and vibrant financial administration and how it captures the whole market. Following that, there was a Q & A period, Tiasunep Jamir gave the vote of gratitude, and professor Anjali Bajaj gave Miss Rebecca Sharon—the day's resource person—a souvenir. After the alumni discussion, a group photoshoot was followed.


Panel Discussion on the “Role of Microfinance in Development”

The Department of Political Science (PG) organized a virtual panel discussion on the “Role of Microfinance in Development” on 26th March 2024. D.V. Swamy IAS and Chairman MPEDA of Government of India, Dr Babita Mahapatra, Additional CEO of Odisha Livelihood Mission, Mr. Karthick Ramadas Vice President of Sa-Dhan, Dr Subrata Kumar Biswal, the State Lead of Odisha eGovernment Foundation chaired the session. The resource persons shared their valuable knowledge on Evolution of Microfinance in rural India, Models of Microfinance, policy formulation considering the efficiency, Women Empowerment and Eradication of poverty and role of nonprofit organizations in microfinance. The panel discussion was followed by a question-and-answer session where students raised numerous questions concerning the operations of MSMEs and the difficulties faced by farmers despite the availability of microfinance programmes. Overall, the event was a productive and fruitful one.


International Conference On Vibrant Democracy: Vision Beyond The Ballot Box

The Department of Political Science organized two days International Conference titled Vibrant Democracy: Vision Beyond the Ballot Box on 6th and 7th March 2024. Fr. Dr Augustine George, pointed out that it is of paramount importance to discuss and look at democracy as more than just a form of governance, to go beyond just casting votes, and to emphasize the importance of inclusive and participatory forms of democracy in his presidential address. The chief guest of the programme Prof. Devendra Sharma spoke about the importance of expressing one’s thoughts which should carry the truth to the audience. An audience should develop the capability to receive it critically, they should be trained to listen and understand what the message is about. The power of persuasion has been going on since the Greek-Roman period and he mentioned how St. Augustine was the main contributor to rhetoric expressions.


GAME SHOW- WIZIRIO

The department of Political Science (PG) organized GAME SHOW- WIZIRIO ( Search for Knowledge) for MA Public Administration II Sem on 24th February 2024. The Game Show was quite enriching and provided students with invaluable knowledge through interesting games and interaction. It added to their understanding and consiousness level. The game show offered a unique opportunity to witness learning through entertaining games and analysis.They were able to retain and connect things related to the course and academics . It was a brainstorming session. The games involved puzzles, identifying pictures, cracking the codes, acting and dumb charades.From observing to incorporating, students gained profound insights into the learning methodology. It is a fine and unique way of grasping the knowledge. The content included the course, syllabus and general awareness topics as well. The students adored the show and showed full participation. This comprehensive learning experience through games underscored the importance of teaching- learning methodology via new and creative techniques.


FACADE- workshop on Face Mask Making

The department of Political Science (PG) organized an FACADE- workshop on Face Mask Making for MA Public Administration II Sem and BA HSPS and HSPS IV Sem on 20th February 2024.

The workshop was quite enriching and provided students with invaluable hands-on experience in making the face mask. It added to their skill development followed by their own making of the mask. The workshop offered a unique opportunity to witness first hand on how to make the mask and later they formed groups and created different sizes of mask. They understood the methods and steps involved and it was engaging and creative. From observing the methods and skill of making masks to experiencing the creativity and richness of the mask making, students gained profound insights into the usage and precautions needed. They used materials like POP bandages, glues, measurement tapes, vaseline, face wash, scissors and newspapers. This comprehensive learning experience underscored the importance of skill development and teamwork.


Poster Exhibition in Commemoration of Martyr’s Day

The Department of Political Science organized a poster exhibition and a documentary screening to commemorate the National Martyr’s Day (Shaheed Diwas) on 30th January 2024. The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Gopakumar AV, Dean, Faculty of Humanities. The platform provided students with an opportunity to display their artistic talents. A documentary screening and quiz based on the theme was conducted following the poster exhibition. The event successfully created a touching and educational experience, highlighting the sacrifices of our martyrs. Through art, it offered a platform for remembrance, reflection, and a better understanding of martyrdom's profound impact on our society.


Game Show, “Picturize the Political Picture

The Department of Political Science organized a game show, “Picturize the Political Picture”, for the students of BA II SEM HSPS, PSSO, JOPS, focusing on innovative learning experience. The game show injected an element of excitement and competition into the learning process, which captured the students’ attention and motivated them to engage actively in the event. By transforming theoretical concepts into interactive challenges, the gamified nature of the activity created a dynamic learning environment among the students.

The event concluded successfully, with students expressing a keen interest in more game show sessions and interactive learning experiences. It was an enjoyable and dynamic occasion, effectively engaging students and igniting enthusiasm for the subject


Online Intradepartmental Essay Competition

Department of Political Science organized an online intradepartmental essay competition on the commemoration of India’s 75th Republic Day on 26th January 2024. A total of thirty students participated in the competition and submitted essays on various topics ranging from Democracy, peace, harmony, constitution, statecraft to achievements of India as a State.

The platform has provided students to showcase their creativity, critical thinking and writing skills which promotes intellectual growth fostering competitive spirit.

The Department of Political Science in collaboration with Library and Information Centre organized an engaging event titled "Collage with Caption" on 18th January 2024, in the Library, Main Block. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from four teams. The teams showcased their artistic talents by creating visually appealing collages that depicted various political ideologies, historical events, and contemporary issues. The collages served as a medium for students to communicate their thoughts and opinions on political matters. This activity play a crucial role in promoting a vibrant academic culture and encouraging students to explore and express their perspectives on political issues.

Constitution Day Quiz (Online Quiz)

The Department of Political Science organised an online Quiz on the occasion of the Constitution Day on 26th November 2023.The Constitution Day Quiz was aimed to enhance constitutional awareness among students of Kristu Jayanti College, fostering a deeper understanding of constitutional principles of the country. Documentary Screening on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

The documentary vividly depicted the chronology of the freedom movement, encompassing major events from the Kheda and Bardoli movements to India’s eventual Independence.


Commemorate Gandhi Jayanti

The Department of Political Science organized an expert talk with Melanie P Kumar, Independent Journalist and Trustee, Sarvodaya International Trust, Karnataka Chapter, to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti.

The session sheds light on the musical and spiritual dimension of Mahatma Gandhi's life, primarily through the lens of “Ashram Bhajanavali,” a collection of devotional songs. It went on to explain the relevance of music and spirituality in the life of Mahatma Gandhi and power, devotion and unity it impacted on his followers during the Freedom Struggle.

What set this session apart was its immersive interactivity. Mrs. Milanie Kumar actively involved the teachers and students in singing iconic Bhajans, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to deeply connect with the spirit of Gandhi’s philosophies. It emphasized how spiritual and musical practices played a crucial role in his unwavering commitment to truth and non-violence. This event left the audience with a heightened understanding of both Gandhi and the devotional songs that were central to his life.


“Drop Everything and Read” (D.E.A.R)2

The Department of Political Science initiated a new teaching pedagogy titled as “Drop Everything and Read” (D.E.A.R) on 28th August 2023. The students reported on the turf with the newspaper. The chief guest of the event, Dr. Gopakumar AV, Dean of Humanities, stressed on the importance of reading newspaper on a regular basis. Dr. Gopakumar additionally remarked on the events related to the BRICS Summit hosted by South Africa. The students began reading the international column of the newspapers. The event concluded with sharing information extracted from the newspapers.


Student Extension Activity at Lighthouse International Academy

On 16th August 2023, the Department of Political Science had organized an extension activity for the undergraduate students, to Lighthouse International Academy, Bagalur, Bengaluru, to commemorate the 77th Independence Day Celebration. Lighthouse Academy is a trust organization which provides education to physically and mentally challenged children. The BA V Sem HSPS/PSSO/PSEN students of Kristu Jayanti College, were divided into two groups: one to conduct the classes for children from 6th to 10th grade and the other to conduct classes for children from 1st to 5th grade. The children were taught the importance of Independence Day through various activities such as- quizzes, storytelling, drawing, aerobics, movie screening, mime show etc. The students also had an interaction with the Director and the founder chairperson of Lighthouse Academy.


Student Extension Activity at Lighthouse International Academy

The Department of Political Science organised a student extension activity at Lighthouse International Academy for the school children from Grade 1 to 10 on 16th August 2023 to commemorate 77th Independence Day. Our V semester HSPS, PSEN and PSSO students interacted with the school children to bring awareness about the Indian Government, Politics, Indian Constitution, National Flag, National Emblem, National Anthem etc. Students performed Mime and played a documentary on Anti Ragging and concluded the session with the question and answer.


Placement Orientation And Training Programme

The Department of Social Sciences in collaboration with Centre for Employability and Corporate Relation (CECR) has organised a Placement Orientation and Training Programme for the III year BA HSPS/HSEC/PSSSO/PSEC/PSEN Students on 3rd August 2023. Prof. Sen B Mathew, Director of Centre of Employability and Corporate Relations was the resource person for the event. Prof, Mathew briefed the students regarding the procedures for being hired, placement opportunities, and Do’s and don’ts’ to be followed during the selection process and other aspects of career guidance. The session ended with Q and A.


Magazine Release: DEFACTO AND SCROLLS

Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Department of History organized a Magazine and Newsletter release titled “Scrolls” from the Dept. of History and “Defacto” from the Dept. of Political Science on 06th May 2023. Fr. Deepu Joy, Student Welfare Officer, and Dr. Gopakumar A.V Dean, Faculty of Humanities released both Magazine and Newsletter followed by the release of Tabula Rasa – Political Musings written by Brunda K N and Marietta Manu. This year’s theme for the Newsletter - Defacto is “Peace and Conflict.” Both Scrolls and Defacto focus on the articles, poems, and drawings from the entire social science departments. It was a great learning experience for the students to exhibit their hidden talents. This program was witnessed by the Coordinator, Faculties, and Students.


Mock Parliament 2023

The Department of Political Science conducted its flagship event Mock Parliament 2023 on April 10th, 2023. There were two sessions in total; one from 11:00 to 12:45 PM and the other from 2:30 to 4:00 PM. The Mock Parliament is a demonstration of the political processes in the Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament. It aims to provide holistic training and public speaking and acting with extensive knowledge about parliamentary procedures. Overall, this event was successful in educating the students on the political processes of the nation.


“Samvidhananda Arivu” (S.O.P): Visit to Siddhartha Government School

Department of Political Science organized “Samvidhanada Arivu” a Student Outreach Programme. Political Science Club Coordinator Dr. Deekshith Kumar M along with the fourteen students visited Siddhartha Government School on 27th January 2023 to commemorate the 74th Republic Day. Our Students interacted with the school children to bring awareness about the Indian Constitution, National Flag, National Emblem National Anthem, etc. The Club Coordinator spoke about the significance of Nationality, Patriotism, and an overview of Republic Day and concluded the session with a question and answer.


Student Presentation in Commemoration of Martyrs’ Day

Department of Political Science organized Student Presentation on 30th January 2023 to commemorate Martyrs’ Day. “A soldier doesn’t ask a country what it can do for him instead he asks his country what he can do for it” with this quote the session was started and enlightening with the extra knowledge and information about great people who sacrificed their lives for the love of the nation. A few students made presentations on martyrs they not only touched upon famous leaders like M.K. Gandhi, S.C. Bose, Bhagat Singh, Alluri Sita Rama Raju, and Baburao Pullesur Shedmake. This session helped the student to understand their sacrifice, leadership, patriotism, loyalty, cooperation, and commitment toward the country.


Mock Election: Voting, Counting, and Declaration

Department of Political Science organized Mock Election on 25th January 2023 to commemorate National Voters Day. Mock Election provided hands-on experience with the procedure of Election and the importance of voting. The fundamental principles were followed in the election process including the nomination of candidates, party-based campaigning, general interaction with the students, and addressing various issues related to the party agendas and manifestos. Fr. Deepu Joy, Student Welfare Officer, Management Member of Kristu Jayanti College, led the oath-taking ceremony. The candidates then presented their manifestos. Students of all three years cast the votes in the ballot after the inaugural session.

Voters Awareness, Voter Registration Program and Rally for Voters Awareness

The Department of Political Science, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), National Service Scheme (NSS) and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), in collaboration with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), organized a Voter ID registration drive from 22nd to 25th November 2022. The registrations took place in three different venues in the college campus. More than 200 students were enrolled in the voter’s list. The drive was concluded with voter’s awareness rally on 25th November from the campus of Kristu Jayanti College to K. Narayanapura Main Road. Students held placards, distributed pamphlets, and raised slogans to create awareness among the people about the importance of voting.

Manjunath, a resident of K. Narayanapura said that, “It is important for citizens of the nation to vote, especially the youth.” Karan, a student of Kristu Jayanti College, gave his feedback about the rally saying, “The rally was helpful for bringing awareness about the importance of voting among the residents of Kothanur and K. Narayanapura.” H.V. Rishikesh, the student coordinator for NSS, Kristu Jayanti College gave his insights saying, “The support of BBMP was crucial for the effective conduct of the drive.”


‘Paramanu’ - Movie Screening on Disarmament

The Department of Political Science, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru organized a movie screening on disarmament “Paramanu” the story of Pokhran on 22nd November 2022. The movie is based on the true account of India's nuclear test at Pokhran in 1998, it demonstrates how India came to be recognised as a nuclear state. India conducted a series of five nuclear tests between May 11 and 13. These nuclear tests of India resulted in the recognition of one among the powerful countries at the global level. It was an opportunity for the students to gain more knowledge about the significant events of India’s in nuclear experiments and achievements through watching a movie ‘Paramanu’.


National Unity Day
Date:31 October 2022
The Department of Political Science organised Unity Day Exhibition on 31st October 2022 to commemorate 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The day is also observed as the National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. The department organised the day-long exhibition included special exhibits on the life of Sardar Patel along with cultural programs that were aimed to promote need and sense of national unity and create consciousness about the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to Indian society.

Fr. Lijo P Thomas, Vice-Principal, Kristu Jayanti College, read out the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge” and inaugurated the ceremony. Along with students from Kristu Jayanti College, the event was noted with the presence of 80 students from Sri Siddhartha Sanivasa High School. A total of 200 students from Kristu Jayanti College participated in the exhibition that attempted to raise awareness on the importance of staying united as a nation and strengthening our society.


Poster Making Competition
Date: 02 & 03 October 2022
The Department of Political Science organized a Poster-Making Competition for the students of political science to commemorate the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The event was conducted online on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2022. The students were encouraged to submit their original hand-drawn posters about the different aspects of Mahatma Gandhi. This was also done in order to bring attention to the ideology of Gandhiji and remembrance of the importance of adopting Gandhian practices both at individual and societal level. Students from different sessions actively participated and submitted their entries. Many of the entries emphasised the need for accelerating ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative and genesis of non-violence; key aspects of Gandhian thought. This activity encourages students to express their creative abilities in a flexible environment and bring into lime light the various facets of Gandhi’s life.

Alumni Talk on “Career Guidance”
Date: 08/9/2022
On 8th September 2022, the students of Political Science Department got an opportunity to attend career guidance by Capt. George Johns Thampy. The talk was organised in M4 auditorium which commenced at 9:00 am. Capt. George address the students about the roles and responsibilities of student. He highlighted the importance of mounting short term achievable goals, laying emphasis on inculcating habits like reading and time management. The talk energised the students and gave them a clear picture about career opportunities. Values and ethics according to Captain Thampy mould an individual’s life and it must be adhered to by all. Captain Thampy also shared his life experiences as a commander in the army and how he overcomes new challenges every day. The session ended with a question answer round wherein students enthusiastically engaged in asking meaningful questions regarding career opportunities. The session was informative and appreciated by all.


Discourse on Book “Western Political Thought”
Date: 25/8/2022
The Department of Political Science in collaboration with Library and Information Centre of Kristu Jayanti College organized and launched a book release on “Western Political Thought” on 25th August 2022 in the main block auditorium on the first floor. Dr S.J. Michael, faculty of the Political Science was the Chief Guest of the session. Immediately after the welcome address, the Chief Guest addressed the gathering. He extended his hearty congratulations to the author and explained how this book is now part of a treasure trove of knowledge. The book titled “Western Political thought” delved into philosophies of the past, ideologies of Aristotle, Plato and Socrates, Medieval period changes, and theories of Locke, Hobbes, Rousseau, Bentham, Marx, Hegel, and other great modern thinkers. He praised the book for being framed following the NEP syllabus, and this highlighted how deeply the author cares for the students of Karnataka and the future generations that are immensely fortunate to be able to consult her book as a reference for their education in the path of knowledge. The chief guest also reminded us how the author has balanced a lot of roles, duties, and responsibilities in this journey of authoring. He commends her skills of multi-tasking and resolute personality that have led her to reap the fruits of her success. The chief guest ends his address by wishing the author all the best in her future endeavours.

After the introduction of the Author of the Book- Dr. Kaveri Swami addressed the gathering and gave a brief abstract and review of her book. She spoke of her journey as an author and how she has taken four years to carefully author this book under the NEP for the benefit of students. She also mentioned how she is extremely grateful to her parents, God Almighty, her family, faculty and students who have inspired and encouraged her through her journey as a writer. Finally, the program ended with the vote of thanks.


Anexartisia 2022 – An Independence Day Online Quiz

India celebrates 15th August as Independence Day. 75th Independence Day to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. To mark respect for this day the Department of Political Science had organized “ANEXARTISIA 2022” - An Independence Day Online Quiz on 14th and 15th August 2022. The quiz was opened to all students of Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous). In total 32 students participated in the quiz out of which four students emerged as winners:

Orientation On Gandhian Fellowship

Department of Political organized “Lux Poetica” – The light of Poetry, Book Release. The Book release of the two books Anthology of political poems by Gowri Sreekumar and Ardent Zephyr by Unitta Anna Shaji took place on the 13th May 2022 in the M4 auditorium of Kristu Jayanti College. The chief guest of the event was Rev. Fr. Joshy Mathew, Member of management, PG Coordinator for the Dept. of English. The dice was also graced by the presence of Dr. Gopakumar A.V, Dean of the Humanities Department, Dr Kaveri Swami, Coordinator, Department of Political Science and the authors Gowri Sreekumar and Unitta Anna Shaji. The event began by invoking the blessings of the Almighty followed by the welcome speech by Bavana Vinod. Fr Joshy Mathew inspired the audience with his knowledge on poetry and congratulated the authors on their success. Then the official release of the books took place by Fr. Joshy and Dr. Gopakumar A.V along with the authors. The authors gave speeches on their journey of writing the book and the hardships they had to face while writing of the books. There was also special surprise for the authors where their parents congratulated them of their success and blessing them for their future endeavours. The event came to an end with Sidharth Santhosh delivering the vote of thanks and thanked the audience for their presence and cooperation which led to the successful completion of the event.


Orientation On Gandhian Fellowship
Date: 6/4/2022
Department of Political Science in collaboration with Department of Sociology organized Orientation on Gandhian Fellowship for First and Final year students on 6th April 2022 between 3 to 5 pm at Mini Audi 4, Main Block. The resource persons were Ms. Aditi Sugara, Programme Leader, Marketing and Communications and Mr. R. Manohar, Programme Leader, Marketing and Recruitment. They spoke about the fellowship, how it is going to help the students in their future endeavors. They explained that it gives multiple learning opportunities, develop a multi-disciplinary thinking approach. They also said that all selected candidates will collaborate with community members and government stakeholders to transform the education system by improving student learning outcomes, improve healthcare system by providing affordable healthcare solutions/support to the most vulnerable communities & provide access to safe drinking water in every corner of the country. Finally the program came to an end with the interaction and vote of thanks.


PATRIOT - An online Quiz

India celebrates 26th January as Republic Day since 1950. This was the day when the Constitution came into implementation though completed on 26th Nov. 1949 in memory of the declaration of “Purna Swaraj” in 1930. To mark respect for this day the Department of Political Science has organized “PATRIOT” - An online Quiz on 26th January 2022. The quiz was opened only for final year BA Political Science students. In total 20 students participated in the quiz out of which four students emerged as winners:

Poster Making Competition “Ballot”

The day 25th January has its own importance in the political history. Since 2011, every year this day is been celebrated as National Voters’ Day, all over the country to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, i.e. 25th January 1950. The objective of the day is to encourage, facilitate, and optimize new voter registration and to promote the electoral process among newly eligible young voters.

To bring awareness about the importance of Voting the Department of Political Science organized a Poster Making Competition tilted as “BALLOT” to Commemorate National Voter’s Day on 25th January 2022. In this competition, Political Science students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd years participated. The Competition was conducted through virtual mode. Students were asked to submit their posters through Google form. In total 20 students participated out of which five were shortlisted and three were declared as winner by the Jury members.


Quizzards
Date: 25/10/2021
The Department of Political Science organized a Quiz Competition tilted as “QUIZZARDS 2K21” to Commemorate UN Day. In this competition, Political Science students of both II year and III year participated. The Quiz was conducted at two stages. The first stage was Prelims organized on 22nd October 2021 in which ten teams participated out of which five teams were shortlisted for Quiz Finals which was organized on 25th October 2021.

The Quiz finals had four different rounds namely UN Round, GK Wizard, Personality Round and Picture Round. The Quiz Master was Mr. Sanjay Jayakumar, Student Coordinator and Mr. Gerald Jacob from Final year HEP was the score keeper. On this day Prof. S J Michael, the Head of the Department and Coordinator for the Department of Social Sciences and Languages, and Faculty Coordinator Dr. Huggi Saroja and Dr. Kaveri Swami encouraged the participants with their presence.


Value Added Course Citizenship And Voting
Department of Political Science conducted a Value Added Course to Vth Semester Students of JEEng and EPsS on “Citizenship and Voting” for the academic year – 2021 – 22. Total duration of the course was 30 hours which commenced on 9th of August and ended on 19th of August. Different topics in the area of citizenship, elections, voting covered to enhance the knowledge of the students. Almost interactive classes were conducted. Invited in house faculties to add on knowledge in the field and to make students understand the value of these basic and fundamental rights. Conducted quiz as well to make the course easier to understand. Classes were conducted online through Zoom platform of the college and on August 19th, 2021, conducted 30 Marks examination online on Kristu Jayanthi College LMS with the MCQ pattern and certificates will be issued to eligible candidates.

Workshop on Human Rights and Covid 19-A Right to Health perspective
Department of Political Science has organised workshop on “Human Rights and Covid 19-A Right to Health perspective”, on 10th December 2020 to commemorate International Human Rights Day through online mode.

The resource person distributed the students in different break up room and they were given a topic to discuss among themselves and then a complete discussion took over the importance of Rights and Health. Sir focussed more on the nutritious food; he shared a small video to all the participants depicting the inhuman treatment done to the Covid patients. Resource person has enlightened us with Human Rights. Number of students actively participated in the discussion and raised their query to the resource person.


SAMVIDHAN (Webinar on Constitutional Values)
Department of Political Science has organized Webinar on Constitutional Values titled as “SAMVIDHAN” on 26th November 2020 through online mode between 10.45 to 11.45 am. Prof. Mahesh S Betasur, Assistant Professor, Kristu Jayanti College of Law, was the guest of the day. He delivered a lecture on the topic – “Ideals of Indian Constitution”.


Webinar on ‘National Educational Policy’
The Department of political science has organized an online “Webinar on National Educational Policy” to bring an awareness on new national educational policy.

Dr. Mustafa, the Dean and Professor, Department of Education, Central University, Kerala was the resource person for the session. The resource person gave an insight about the characteristics of the National Educational policy highlighting the advantages of the policy.

The Webinar was opened to all. Nearly 140 people across the country participated in the Webinar. All the participants received E-certificate.

Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas is celebrated in India on the 26th of November, marking the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November, 1949. The Dept. of Political Science commemorated this day with various events which included a quiz (Syntagma) based on questions on the Indian Constitution, a webinar with guest lecture who spoke on the basic values and principles of the Indian Constitution. Apart from these two events, the department also arranged for students’ presentations on topics related to the constitution.

A number of students presented on various aspects of the Indian Constitution, its process of formulation and its foundational ideals and values. This event gave the students an opportunity to learn and find out on their own the basic foundational ideals of our constitution and what our constitution’s founding fathers had envisaged.

The Department of Political Science organized “SYNTAGMA” - An online Quiz from 26th November 2020 to 27th Nov. 2020 to Commemorate Constitution Day. The quiz was opened to all. Nearly 177 participants across the country participated in the quiz and E-Certificate was provided to all those who scored above 80%.


Workshop on Human Rights and Covid 19 - A Right to Health perspective
The Department of Political Science organized a workshop on “Human Rights and Covid 19-A Right to Health perspective”, on 10th December 2020 to commemorate International Human Rights Day through online mode between 2.15 to 3.15 p.m. with the 2020 Theme: Recover Better - Stand Up for Human Rights.

Poster Designing Competition on account of International Anti-Corruption Day

1. To bring an awareness about the impact of corruption on the society.
2. To imbibe the feeling that Saying, “No to Corruption is not impossible”.

“Corruption is criminal, immoral and the ultimate betrayal of public trust. It is even more damaging in times of crisis – as the world is experiencing now with the COVID-19 pandemic. The response to the virus is creating new opportunities to exploit weak oversight and inadequate transparency, diverting funds away from people in their hour of greatest need” as said by UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.

To commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day, the Department of Political Science organised a Poster Designing Competition to bring awareness about the types of corruption, its impact on the society and the measures to prevent corruption by saying No to Corruption.

The competition was opened to all Political Science students from various classes from 9th Dec. 2020 to 11th Dec. 2020, Nearly 20 students participated in this and the best were awarded:

Mobile Photography Competition
Department of Political Science organized mobile photography competition for UG students as a part of International Day of Peace on September 21st 2020. It was a creative event in which the participants got an opportunity to capture “Peace” and submit the photographs that showed both the academic and the social side of the individual. The competition started exactly at 09.00 a.m. The contestants were briefed on the rules and regulations to be followed while clicking the pictures and also the judgement criteria. Mr. Mark Alwin Yesudas (18HU7H1035) from V Semester BA JPs English bagged the first prize. Second prize was awarded to Mr Rahul Sangma (18HU2A1031) from V Semester BA HEP.

The Department of Political Science organized anexartisia-20 an online Quiz programme to bring awareness and information relating to the Independence Day under the able leadership of Prof. S.J Michael, Head of the Department and Coordinator for the Department of Social Science, and was assisted by Department faculty and the co-conveners of the quiz- Dr. Kaveri Swami and Prof. Shareef Povval. The Quiz was opened to all. It started from 15st August 2020, to 18th August 2020, 5 p.m. 337 participants across the country participated in the Quiz and E-certificates were issued to all those who scored above 80%.

Father Josekutty, Director of Kristu Jayanti College; Welcome Speech was given by the Prof. S.J. Michael, Head of the Department and Coordinator for the Department of Social Science and language followed by the introduction of the Chief Guest by Dr. Shareef. The resource person gave an insight about the characteristics of the National Educational Policy highlighting the advantages. The programme concluded with Dr. Kaveri Swami proposing the vote of thanks.

The Webinar was opened to all. Nearly 140 people across the country participated in the Webinar. All the participants received an E-certificate.

Workshop on Human Rights
The Department of Political Science, Kristu Jayanti College conducted a workshop on Human Rights for the students of Political science on 25.9.19.

The resource persons for the workshop Professor Dr. Mary Princess Lavanya of St. Joseph College addressed the students on human rights.

The workshop commenced with a welcome address followed by address by the chief guest and resource person.

Dr. Mary Princess Lavanya gave an insight about the Human rights, their significance and issues faced in reality. The resource person advised the students to come forward to register their difficulties in sustaining their rights and stressed on how the rights that are intrinsic to humans and the moral and political views that exist in the current scenario. The resource person also addressed in detail on the documents that are present in Human Rights. Various categories present in Human Rights such as Civil, Political, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and how they could be classified into first and second-generation rights were also touched upon. During the next session, Dr.Mary Princess Lavanya divided the students into various groups and gave them case studies to work upon and reflect their points of view on those case studies. Each group presented their view points and the resource person analysed their views to give her inputs.

The event was formally concluded with a vote of Thanks. The workshop was coordinated by Dr Sneha.D.R, staff co-ordinator, Department of Political science.

THE POWER OF YOUTH IN INDIAN POLITICS

Department of Political Science of Kristu Jayanti College took the students under the guidance of Head of the Department of Political Science Prof. S.J Michael, to participate in the seminar organized by St. Aloysius Degree College, Sarvagna Nagar, Cox town, Bangalore. The theme of the seminar was “THE POWER OF YOUTH IN INDIAN POLITICS.” The key Speaker was Mr. Jignesh Mevani, Honourable MLA from the Vadgam constituency of Gujarat state. He stressed upon the role of Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and his writing “YUVAK.” He further spoke about the farmer suicide issue in Gujarat and how they are exploited by the feudal lords. He mentioned the works of Dr. Mukul Sinha, who is a Human rights activist and how he gave up being a physicist and took up the cause for helping the sanitation workers and security guards and his role during the Hartal for the riot victims. He concluded by saying that the youth should be active enough to work for the sole motto of development of the labour class and Dalit community of India and how they should seek for the ideology of pro-changers which has different parts like pro-constitution, pro-schemes etc.

Learning Outcome:
Students learnt about freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh etc. Students learnt about the role of youth in Indian Politics.

The college and its offices will remain closed from 23rd to 25th December 2024 due to end-semester vacation. |
