PANDEMIC! AND OTHER STORIES
Pandemic and other stories was a podcast off stage event, which was part of Humantra 2020 competitions. In this event the registered students had to make a podcast relating to the theme- Pandemic! And Other Stories. They could inculcate the main theme of Humantra 2020- Celebrating Lives and More as well. Students were free to be as creative as possible while just keeping in mind to not to be vulgar and maintain the Jayantian decorum. The recorded podcasts had to be submitted via Google forms before the deadline 10th December 2020.

QUOTE THE AGED SNAP”
Quote the Aged Snap was a caption writing off stage event, which was part of Humantra 2020 competitions. In this event the registered students had to give relevant creative captions to the given historical photos. The best captions were awarded. The participants were provided with Google forms to submit their captions that contained the photos in it. A total number of three photos were given to the students that represented pandemics during history and on how people celebrated their lives despite the pandemic. The deadline to submit these captions was 10th December 2020.

THE PAST, THE PRESENT, THE FUTURE
The Past, The Present, The Future was an on-stage event, which was part of Humantra 2020 competitions. This event had two rounds- Preliminary round and the Final round. The registered participants had to select any historical personality of their choice. In the first round conducted on 10th December 2020, the participants had to enact and speak like their characters on- ‘Leading the World during the COVID Crisis’. Six participants were short listed for the final round that took place on 12th December 2020. In the finale the participants were put in a hypothetical situation of being in an airplane that is above to crash and there is only one life saving parachute for which the participants had to fight for over the others and must prove why are they the most deserving one amongst all. Two brilliant faculties, Prof. Ramya B and Asst. Prof. Ehboklang Pyngrope, judged this event. In final round the participants in level 1 had to speak why they deserved the parachute the most. Level 2 was a rebuttal round wherein the participants had to contradict one another. And in the last level, i.e., level 3 participants had to tackle the tough tricky questions asked by the jury. The best three were declared as the winners.

Siri Kannada
On 1st of November 1956 the state of Karnataka was formed. This day is celebrated with great pride among Kannadigas as Karnataka Rajyotsava Day. Therefore, to commemorate this day the Department of History, the History Club, and the Literary and Cultural Association of Kristu Jayanti College organized Siri Kannada, through a set of two competitions. The competitions were Rangoli and Paper Painting. Interested students had to register through provided Google forms and had to submit their Rangolis and Paintings through another given Google form within a given frame of time. The theme given was- “Karnataka: One State, Many Worlds.” A total number of 24 students actively took part in the competition. 15 students participated for Paper Painting and 9 students participated for the Rangoli competition.

Digital Poster Making Competition – Ekta Diwas
The History Club commemorated the Ekta Diwas - National Unity Day on 31st October 2020 by organizing an online digital poster making competition. The day is also marked to celebrate the birthday of former Home Minister Sardar Vallabhai Patel and to remember his contributions of uniting India and to build a feeling of oneness among Indians. Through the Digital Designing competition, the Department of History and the History Club, Kristu Jayanti College celebrated and observed the National Unity Day and helped students understand the essence of this day. This event also served as a platform for students to portray their technical skills of designing posters digitally and to tap into their hidden creativity. This was an off- stage online submission event wherein the participants had to design their posters within the given time frame and submit it through Google forms. The designed posters were posted on various social media platforms on 31st of October 2020.

Awaz the Azad Hind: Commemorating 21st October 1943 – Formation of Azad Hind by Bose
“Awaz the Azad Hind: Commemorating 21st October 1943 – Formation of Azad Hind by Bose” was an event conducted on 20th of October 2020 by the History Club to commemorate the formation of Azad Hind government. Azad Hind government was an Indian provisional government that was established in Japan occupied Singapore during the period of World War II. Under this government was the Indian National Army or the ‘Azad Hind Fauj’ formed. This army marked an important milestone of the Indian freedom struggle, but usually its significance is lesser known. Thus, this elocution competition gave the participants a chance to give ‘Awaaz’ i.e., voice out or speak about the Azad Hind. Zoom digital platform was used to conduct this event. Each participant was given 2 minutes to speak. A total number of 23 participants took part in the event to go back to 77 years and remember the 1st Indian army. The judges of the event were Dr. Shareef N M and Prof. Manohar. The event was witnessed by 126 students along with the supporting faculty of History department Ramya B, Head of Department of History and Prof. Hemango Akshay Hiwale. Through this event the contribution of INA was better understood to the students and this served them as a great learning opportunity amidst this pandemic time.

Scrutinize the Past- Celebrating 74th Independence Day from HEARTS and HOME
The History Club organized the event “Scrutinize the Past” on 15th of August 2020 to celebrate our 74th Independence Day from our hearts and home. In essence, the event was a documentary analysis event, wherein the participants and the audience screened a documentary titled INDIA INDEPENDENT, a production by Documentary Films of India on the Indian freedom struggle. The participants were asked to analyse the documentary and express their views on the same. A total of 24 participants were grouped into 8 teams. The event also aimed at imbibing the spirit of working in teams among the students. The documentary portrayed various events of Indian Independence Movement. Each group was given 3+1 minute to place their views. Prof Abdul Rasheed, Department of Media Studies was the judge for the event. In a humble manner yet with a great zeal, this competition celebrated the 74th Independence Day and remembered the great heroes of Indian Independence Movement.

There were 24 participants competing in the event. Students were extremely happy to celebrate the Independence Day from their home even in these uncertain times and were touched by the sacrifices involved in attaining India’s independence. Students also understood the huge drawback and pain of the Partition of India.

Tape an Old Tale
The History Club organized the event “Tape an old tale” a story narrating competition, on the 13th of August, 2020 in which the participants were required to express their stories either in the form of a short story, a poem or a song. This event was organized for 3rd year History VAC students.

The theme of the event was announced a day before the event, giving the participants enough time to prepare for the event. On the day of the competition, a total number of 11 participants came up with many inspiring and heart touching stories. They were narrated in a very skilful creative manner; many narrated it through beautiful poetry and songs. Through these stories the event fulfilled its goal of recognizing several unheard freedom fighters who are real life heroes and who contributed to the freedom struggle of India in their own capacities. The event also brought a strong feeling of patriotism among all the students.

There were 11 participants for the event. Students were extremely overwhelmed to have got the opportunity to hone their creativity and learn more about the untold things. Students were delighted to have been given these opportunities to learn better and participate in interesting competitions which served them as a learning curve. Students are looking forward for more such interesting events.

Quote the Aged Snap
The History Club organized the event Quote the Aged Snap, a caption writing competition on the 8/8/2020, 9 am to 9/8/2020, 6 pm in which students gave relevant captions to various historical images. These images commemorated the historical events that took place in the month of August.

The event was conducted using Google forms. The form was circulated on various social media platforms and was made available to all Jayantians. These pictures commemorated the Hiroshima and Nagasaki day (6th and 9th of August 1945), Adolf Hitler as President of Germany (19, August 1934) and the Indian Independence Day (15, August 1947).

A total number of 51 participants belonging to various departments of the college took part in the competition. Students were glad to get an opportunity to learn history in a very creative manner. Students were delighted to enhance their creativity while giving very innovative captions.

Club Valedictory Ceremony
The History Club organized its Valedictory Ceremony to felicitate the winners of the 9 events organized by the Club in the course of the academic year 2019-2020. The ceremony also dedicated a moment to appreciate the contributors of the History Square, who displayed 5 different panels on topics such as Commemorating the Indian National Flag, Celebrating the Unsung Sheroes, Fortnightly Quiz, Failures that Changed History and The Constitution from its Inception. The ceremony was clubbed with the History Magazine release event and witnessed the presence of the Principal of the college, Rev Fr Josekutty P.D, who unveiled the magazine. Dr. Gopakumar A.V, the Dean of Humanities graced the occasion as well. The winners were awarded by the Principal.

Project Presentation
On the 25th of February2020, the History club organized a project review for all the second year history students. The event was coordinated by the history club coordinators Shehnaz and Dheeraj. There were 6 final year students who presented their research topics and highlighted their findings. The objective of this event was to give the junior history students an idea of how to carry out their undergraduate research dissertation and the areas they have to focus on. The final year students were selected in such a manner so as to cover varied topics ranging from History of Mizos in Myanmar, Santhal tribe’s freedom struggle, Art and Culture of Manipur, Vesara style temple architecture and so on, that gave the juniors an idea or a glimpse of a variety of topics that they can find, choose and work on.

Unraveling History
The History Club organized a quiz competition for the Indian Cultural Heritage (CBCS) students on 24/02/20. The event saw 12 teams consisting of 5 members each. The topic of the quiz was Indian Art and Culture. The prime objective of the quiz was to aid the CBCS students in preparing for their exams and create awareness about the relevance and significance of Indian art and culture.

Trilogy History Event
The Humanities Department of Kristu Jayanti College conducted an annual inter-collegiate fest La Fete -2020 on the theme “Reminiscing the decade 2010-2020” on 21st & 22nd January, 2020. As part of the fest, the History Department organized the event “Trilogy”. Students from various institutions like CMS, Mount Carmel College, Presidency College, Surana College and many more participated in the event. Trilogy event had a set of three rounds- Pictofacts, Blind mind and Turncoat. The first round “Pictofact” provided the participant teams with pictures/ images of famous and important events of the decade and the teams were required to identify the events. Round two called “Blind mind” required the students to identify the events as their teammates gave them clues. The third round “Turn coat” required the students to speak for and against a specific given topic. The students worked in teams of 2 members to show their team effort in each round. The objective of this event was to test and assess the participant’s general knowledge regarding the relevant events of the decade.

Histoire Divenett: The Annual History Quiz
"The History Club, under the leadership of the club coordinators Shehnaz Nimasow and Dheeraj Chandra B. U, organized its annual history quiz, titled this year as “Histoire Divenette” on 19/12/19. The preliminary round for the same was organized on 16/12/19. A total of 50 participants had registered, of which 16 students qualified for the final. The final session was inaugurated by Ms. Ramya B, Head, Department of History. The final session had 5 rounds and after each round a team was eliminated. The first round tested the students on Ancient and Medieval Indian history. Round two called the “Fact Toy” round saw students bringing forth various facts relevant to a displayed image. The third round incorporated audio clips of famous personalities and required the teams to identify the concerned personality. Round four, called “Blind Mind”, required students to make historical personalities as their team mates gave them clues. The last round was a rapid fire round. The event ended with Mr. Dheeraj offering the vote of thanks."

150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
The Department of History Commemorated the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi through a series of event with the theme: "Practicing Gandhism". On September 30th, 2019, the third event organised by the Department to commemorate Gandhi was a Declamation competition titled, "Time Travel". Students were given various international and national personalities such as Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr, Pearl S Buck, Jayprakash Narayan, Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, Rabindranath Tagore, Albert Einstein etc., They spoke in their character the influence Gandhi had on their lives and how they practiced Gandhism in their everyday lives. These events helped everyone to introspect oneself and find ways of practicing Gandhism.

Sketching Competition: “Mahatma Gandhi: Life and Events”
The History Club organized a sketching competition for all the History students of BA HEP and HTJ on September 23, 2019. The theme for the competition was “Mahatma Gandhi: Life and Events”. Students were seen participating in it enthusiastically and brought into their sketches various Gandhian concepts and events, such as spinning with Charkha, the Dandi March, his early life as an advocate. The objective behind this endeavour was to encourage the students to showcase their artistic skills through sketching and assimilate their research and read on Gandhi in the same sketch.

Behind the Scenes
The Humanities Department of Kristu Jayanti College hosted an intra-collegiate fest Humantra-2019 on the theme, ‘The Great Indian Cinema’ on September 17, 2019. As part of the fest, the History Department in association with the History Club organized the event “Behind the Scenes” to serve as a platform for the all the students of BA I and III semester to showcase their understanding of historical events and narratives in creativity, artistic and fascinating manner. The students were divided into 11 groups and each group was allotted an Indian movie with historical depiction. Various movies from different periods and regions, such as Jodha Akbar, Mohenjodaro, Uri, Baji Rao Mastani, Padmavat, Sangoli Rayanna, Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, Mangal Pandey etc. The students worked in teams of 8-10 members to depict important scenes, characters and events. The students were able to capture both the artistic side of theatre and had an educational yet entertaining performance.

Essay Writing Competition: “Dear Bapu, You are immortal”
The History Club, to encourage the first and second year students to express their thoughts through words, organized an essay writing competition on August 27, 2019 on the topic “Dear Bapu, you are immortal”. The objective of this endeavor was to uphold the various Gandhian principles, such as that of Ahimsa, and to reinstate their significance and resonance in the present world. 30 students from first and second year BA HEP & HTJ participated.

FINAL YEAR PROJECT PRESENTATION

Objectives:
1. To showcase to the junior history students the variety of topics that can be worked on for the undergraduate dissertation
2. To motivate the second year students to think of plausible research topics
3. To make them aware of a research process.

On the 17th of January 2019, the History club organized a project review for all the first and second year history students. The event was coordinated by the history club coordinators Johns and Lerin and was helped by Lokesh. There were 12 final year students who presented their research topics and highlighted their methodology and findings. The objective of this event was to give the junior history students an idea of how to carry out their undergraduate research dissertation and the plausible areas they have to focus on. The final year students were selected in such a manner so as to cover varied topics ranging from Insurgence in Kashmir, Immigrants in Oman, Historical significance of various places in India, Cultural history in music and dance, travellers account, studies on various tribes of India and so on, that gave the juniors an idea or a glimpse of a variety of topics that they can find, choose and work on.

Commemorating 100 years of the end of World War I

Theme: “Commemorating 100 years of the end of World War I in November 11th 2018”.

As part of commemorating 100 years of the end of World War I, History Club activity focused on analysing effects of battlegrounds of World War I. Students prepared presentations to show the significance of the battles, the various events and courses that befall in them as well as studied the importance of these places in the 21st century. Creative presentations on the weapons, unseen pictures and videos of World War I and other statistics and datas of these battlegrounds gave a glimpse of the progress and destruction during World War I. It also showed the impact of World War I in various spheres of human life - politics, society and economy through the years. Thought provoking analytical presentations were made on the following battlegrounds:

4. Battle of Jutland
5. Battle of Antwerp
6. Battle of Gallipoli
7. Battle of Argonne
8. Battle of Marne

This activity received enthusiastic involvement from the audience as well. Dr.Kaveri Swami and Dr.Sneha, Faculty of Political Science Department were the judges of the event.
