Panel discussion Why conflicts continue and Conflict weekly: release of the 200th issue

The Department of History in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Studies-NIAS and Konrad Adenaeur organized a conference involving the discussions about the reasons as to why there is a persistence of conflicts. The session began with the prayer song by the college choir, and the host was Dr. Ashwini Barla. The conference was held in A2 auditorium of Kristu Jayanti College, the session with Prof. Ramya B who gave the welcome speech, and introduced the delegates and introduced the highlights of the collaboration with the Department of History and Kristu Jayanti College with KAS and NIAS, and gave a short introduction about the college. Mr. Ashish Gupta, from KAS India Office, gave the inaugural address. Professor D Suba Chandran, from NIAS, introduced the Publication ‘Conflict Weekly’. Fr. Dr. Augustin George, Principal Kristu Jayanti College, released the 200th issue of ‘Conflict Weekly’ with the German Delegation. The presidential address was delivered by Fr. Dr. Augustin George, Principle Kristu Jayanti College. Fr. Dr. Augustine George and Professor Ramya B received ‘Conflict Weekly’ and ‘Europe Monitor’ Publications respectively in the ending notes by Professor D Suba Chandran. The inaugural session concluded with the college anthem.

Session 2 Consisted of the Panel Discussion. The moderator was Professor D Suba Chandran. The panelists were Dr. Shaji Sadashivan, assistant professor, Department of Political Science University of Hyderabad, and professor D Suba Chandrsn, Professor and Dean, school of conflict and security studies, NIAS. Once the panelists concluded, the discussants gave insights into the topic. The discussants panel included Prof. Uma Maheshwari, Head Department of Politics and Public Administration. University of Madras.; Prof. Sabu Thomas, Head, Department of Political Science, University of Calicut.; Dr, Prabhakaran, Assistant Prof. Department of Defense and Strategic Studies, University of Madras; Dr. Gopakumar A V, Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Kristu Jayanti College; Ms. Dhriti mukherjee, Research Assistant NIAS. The floor was opened for the Question & answer session, once the panelists' discussions concluded. The concluding remarks for the second session were provided by Mr. Elias from KAS india office, Ms. Anu Maria Joseph from NIAS and Dr. Sakithyan K B from Kristu Jayanti College.

Panel Discussion on Women in Science Disciplines and Nurturing the Gifted

The Department of History, Kristu Jayanti College in collaboration with National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, organised MoU signing ceremony followed by a panel discussion on 28th August 2021. The School of Management partnered with this engagement for a review of two research reports.

The discussion was based on the two reports , One an exploratory research project titled A Comprehensive Report on Women in Science and Engineering in India’ that traces the remarkable life journey of women scientists in India across discipline, that was prepared by a team of NIAS scholars led by Prof Anitha Kurup, Anjali Raj, Leya Mathew and Tanya Singhtitled ‘and The second report ‘Challenges of Nurturing the Gifted and Talented in Developing Countries’ is an interesting study of education of gifted and talented children in urban and rural areas, prepared by Prof Anitha Kurup, Shalini Dixit, Ashwini K and Surbhi Arora

Both the reports were thoroughly analyzed by the panelists Dr. M. K. Baby, Head, School of Management, Kristu Jayanti College, and Dr. Aloysius Edward, Dean, School of Management.

The reports and the discussion, centered around how the family and Kinship plays a crucial role in the life of women scientists and professionals, status of women in STEM, areas of importance in the field of education and the challenges faced by the gifted and talented children in developing countries. The discussion also emphasized on the importance of familial support that is vital for women and gifted children. Further, it also touched on the lacunae that exist in national and state policies on education in nurturing the needs of women and the gifted and talented children. Prof. Anitha Kurup, provided details of research effort undertaken and how the efforts have yielded an influence while framing National Education Policy. She appreciated the detailed review of the panelists and the thought provoking discussion.

The college and its offices will remain closed from 23rd to 25th December 2024 due to end-semester vacation. |
