UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi research fellowships
UNESCO invites young post-graduate researchers in developing countries with a Master’s degree or equivalent, to apply for fellowships. This Research Fellowship Programme is financed by Japan through funds-in-trust dedicated to the development of human resources.

The programme, named after the late Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi, offers a total of 10 fellowships to researchers.
A Lump sum contribution of US$10,000 will be awarded to selected candidates to cover research costs only.

The aim is to impact on capacity building and research activities in one of four fields:

  • Environment, with particular attention on disaster risk reduction (DRR);
  • Intercultural dialogue;
  • Information and communication technologies;
  • Peaceful conflict resolution.

Duration of proposed research:

  • minimum: 3 months
  • maximum: 9 months

Applicants:

  • Postgraduate researchers, already holding either an M.A. or M.Sc. degree (or equivalent), no older than 40 years, can apply through their country's National Commission.
  • Priority will be given to women, candidates from the least developed countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and African researchers.
  • Each Member State may nominate a maximum of two candidates. No applications will be considered from individuals.
  • The Member States of UNESCO who are eligible to apply are:

    • Africa - 47 Member States
    • Arab States - 12 Member States
    • Asia and The Pacific - 39 Member States
    • Latin America and the Caribbean - 29 Member States
    • Europe and North America - 12 Member States
    • Associate Member State - Tokelau

    All applications must be sent to the National Commission for UNESCO of the country of origin of the candidate that will then decide whether they will submit the application to UNESCO.

    Scholarship for a Master within Europe 2019/2020:
    Education.com is granting a postgraduate scholarship of up to €5000 to worldwide students planning a master’s degree abroad at a European university or graduate school for the fall/autumn semester of 2020.

    Eligible candidates

  • Must have applied (or will apply) to a university or graduate school within Europe;
  • Must have applied (or will apply) for a master's-level degree starting in the Fall/Autumn semester in 2020;
  • the degree programme must take place within Europe (not online or in another country);
  • Must hold a valid undergraduate (bachelor's) degree;
  • Must hold or be eligible to apply for a relevant study visa (if applicable);
  • Must be studying abroad in a country that you were not born in or currently reside in (unless currently studying).
  • How to apply

    • Fill in a short form
    • Submit a short essay (500-700 words) answering the question "Why did you choose your study abroad country, and how will it help you grow as a globally-minded leader?" Only applications submitted in English will be considered.

    Scholarship to do PHD at the European University Institute (Italy):
    The European University Institute provides advanced academic training to PhD students. The EUI carries out research in a European perspective (fundamental research, comparative research and Community research).
    Doctoral programmes are offered in the following Departments:

    • the Department of History and Civilisation
    • the Department of Economics
    • the Department of Law
    • the Department of Political and Social Sciences.
    • Research students can study for periods from one to three years.

    Eligibility:
    Candidates should have an adequate knowledge of two official languages of the European Union. They should propose a specific thesis project that should be within the research areas covered by the Institute.
