Panel Discussion on Research: How to do it
Date: 10th November 2020
Number of beneficiaries: 108 Students
Name and details of the Resource Person: Dr. D.I. George Amalarethinam
Bursar, Director (MCA) & Associate Professor of Computer Science Jamal Mohamed College (Autonomous) Tiruchirapalli,South India.
Dr. Prasanna Ranjith Christudoss Faculty & Research Coordinator, University of Technology & Applied Science – Shinas, Sultanate of Oman
Dr. P. Calduwel Newton Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Government Arts & Science College, Tiruchirapalli, TamilNadu,South India
Objective:
The Forum aims to foster research interest in undergraduate students and to inspire them to take up research as a career and to create a network of students to promote and facilitate Interdisciplinary Research.
Dr. George Amalarethinam was the moderator of the panel and Dr. Calduwel Newton and Dr. Prasanna Ranjith were the members of the Panel Discussion on “Research: How to do it”. Dr. George explained the need of selecting a topic that can be the most challenging part of a research assignment. Since this is the very first step in writing a paper, it is vital that it be done correctly.
Dr. Newton focused and explained the need to do a preliminary search to determine whether there is enough information out there for the investigation and to set the context of the research. With the direction of the research now clear, begin locating material on the topic.
Dr. Prasanna explained the need to consult the resources chosen and note the information that will be useful in the paper. He asked the students to begin by organizing the information that was collected. Citing or documenting the sources used in the research serves two purposes: it gives proper credit to the authors of the materials used, and it allows those who are reading your work not to duplicate your research and locate the sources that you have listed as references.
The final step in the process is to proofread the paper created. The Panel Discussion paved the way for the students to know more about research.
