On 18th September 2025, 61 BCA students from Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, had the opportunity to visit the KSIC Silk Weaving Factory in Mysuru. This visit was organized as part of the curriculum to provide students with practical exposure to industrial operations and processes.

During the visit, students observed the complete process of silk production, from the processing of raw silk to the weaving of high-quality finished products. The factory staff explained the various quality control measures in place to ensure that each product meets the required standards. Students also gained insights into the supply chain management practices of the company, including inventory handling and timely delivery of materials. Additionally, the visit highlighted the marketing strategies employed by KSIC to maintain its prominent position in the silk industry.

On March 6th, 2025, 64 students from the IV Semester BCA F class undertook an educational industrial visit to Kaynes Technology India Limited, Mysuru. Formerly known as Kaynes Technology India Private Limited, the company is a leading end-to-end and IoT solutions-enabled integrated electronics manufacturer in India, with expertise across the entire ESDM (Electronics System Design and Manufacturing) spectrum.

The visit was organized to provide students with first-hand exposure to industry-grade operations, advanced manufacturing processes, and real-world applications of emerging technologies. With over three decades of experience, Kaynes Technology operates across various sectors including Automotive, Industrial, Aerospace and Defence, Medical, Outer-space, Railways, IoT, IT, and Nuclear segments—making it a highly relevant and diverse learning ground for aspiring IT professionals.

Students had the opportunity to observe how Kaynes integrates Conceptual Design, Process Engineering, Integrated Manufacturing, and Life Cycle Support in delivering customized electronic and IT solutions. Company representatives guided the students through their advanced infrastructure, capable of handling flexible and scalable manufacturing demands across industries.

Industrial Visit to Akshaya Patra Foundation

The Department of Computer Science(UG) organized an industrial visit for I BCA ‘A’ students to Akshaya Patra, VK Hill Kitchenn at Kanakapura Road The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a public-private partnership, is the largest NGO-run mid-day meal program in the world It utilizes innovative technology, smart engineering and good management to reach and continue to grow its current levels of service delivery and keep costs low The hallmark of Akshaya Patra's program is its centralized kitchen facilities, which have been designed and engineered to optimize quality and minimize cost, time and labor Students learnt about how these fully automated kitchens can prepare 185,000 meals in less than five hours by utilizing gravity flow mechanisms to minimize human handling of food, mechanized high-speed cutting of vegetables and conveyor belts for easy transportation They also learnt about the large stainless steel cauldrons with easy-tilt mechanisms prepare 1,200 litres of lentils in two hours and a specially designed roti-making machine cooks up 40,000 rotis (flat whole wheat bread) in one hour Steam is used as a source of cooking, which accelerates the cooking process, retains nutrients, and is cost-effective and clean After the food leaves the kitchen, the Akshaya Patra meal delivery system involves well-coordinated precision logistics using custom designed vehicles that quickly and safely deliver cooked food to schools according to a strict schedule, with optimal storage and minimal spillage In an effort to minimize fuel consumption and cost, they have developed route simulation software A pilot run of this tool reduced the number of routes in the Bangalore South kitchen by 10 percent, and experts estimate that an optimization opportunity of up to 15 percent exists if the tool is implemented across all units This industrial visit was very helpful for the students to learn about automation processes and its application
