Dr.K.Kalaiselvi receives the Sophia Lecturing Research Grant from Sophia University, Tokyo.
Dr. K. Kalaiselvi, Associate Professor and Coordinator, Department of Computer Science, Kristu Jayanti College (Deemed-to-be) University, Bengaluru, undertook a collaborative research visit to Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan, from April 4 to July 4, 2025, under the prestigious Sophia Lecturing Research Grant, awarded by the Science and Technology Exchange Committee (STEC), Sophia University, with Prof. Tad Gonsalves, Faculty of Science and Technology, Sophia University.

During her visit, Dr. Kalaiselvi worked on a research project titled “Sympathetic AI Companion for University Students”, which focuses on the development of an AI-based virtual counsellor designed to support the emotional and academic well-being of university students. The project integrates core concepts from Ethical AI, Affective Computing, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to build emotionally aware, intelligent systems capable of context-sensitive interaction. It also emphasizes sentiment analysis, memory retrieval, and a strong commitment to user privacy and data security.

Dr. Kalaiselvi delivered invited lectures on “Emotionally Aware and Ethically Responsible AI Systems” and “AI for Mental Health Support in Educational Settings”, engaging with research groups and faculty members. Her sessions facilitated interdisciplinary dialogue on responsible AI design, student-centric applications, and the role of AI in promoting mental wellness in higher education.

As a result of these academic engagements, a collaborative research project is currently in progress between Kristu Jayanti University and Sophia University under her mentorship. Further initiatives, including joint publications, international workshops, and faculty development programmes, are being planned, focusing on the intersection of Affective Computing, Privacy-Preserving AI, and AI in Education.

During her visit, Dr. Kalaiselvi also collaborated with Prof. Kimio Momose, Department of Data Science, for a student capstone project initiative. She also explored the potential for integrated collaborative work on a linguistic AI project with Prof. Javier Muñoz Basols, Honorary Faculty Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, paving the way for future international academic engagement. She had the opportunity to communicate with Prof. Sali Augustine, Chancellor of Sophia School Corporation and Professor in the Faculty of Global Studies, Sophia University, as well as with Prof. John Joseph Puthenkalam, Professor in the Graduate Program of Global Environmental Studies, Sophia University, fostering academic exchange and cross-cultural dialogue.

Contribution to SWAYAM-NPTEL - Dr. Divya K.S recognized as a Translator for the SWAYAM–NPTEL Initiative
The Department of Computer Science proudly acknowledges Dr. Divya K.S for her commendable contribution to the SWAYAM-NPTEL TransLingua initiative, a national effort to make technical education more accessible through high-quality translations in Indian regional languages.

Since 2024, Dr. Divya K.S has been an active contributor to this initiative, dedicating her expertise to the Malayalam language translation and editing of NPTEL course materials. As part of this ongoing effort, Dr. Divya K.S successfully completed translation editing tasks for two core NPTEL courses—Numerical Linear Algebra and Application and Remote Sensing and GIS improving the linguistic clarity and accessibility of course content.

Dr. Divya K.S work ensures that complex technical concepts are presented in a linguistically accurate and pedagogically effective manner for Malayalam-speaking learners. This contribution exemplifies her deep commitment to educational equity and the democratization of knowledge.

By participating in this initiative, Ms. Divya joins a growing community of contributors across the country who are actively supporting India’s vision of inclusive, multilingual, and digitally empowered education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Her sustained efforts not only reflect personal excellence but also strengthen the department’s role in fostering language-inclusive academic outreach.
