Workshop on User Interface Design using Figma
Date: 17 & 20 February 2026
The Workshop on User Interface Design using Figma conducted on 17th and 20th February 2026 for the IV sem Visual Communication students focused on helping participants design effective and visually appealing websites. It introduced them to essential UI design principles such as layout structure, color selection, typography, and spacing. Students learned how thoughtful design decisions improve usability and overall user experience. Through practical demonstrations, they explored how to plan and organize website content clearly and logically. The workshop provided hands-on activities that allowed learners to create website layouts from scratch. They were guided on how to design responsive web pages that adapt to different screen sizes. The session also emphasized consistency, alignment, and visual hierarchy in website design.

Deluxe Enertainment Company Two Days Workshop Program
Date: 12 & 13 February 2026
The Centre for Employability and Corporate Relations, in collaboration with the Department of Media Studies at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) Bengaluru, organized a two-day workshop for Media Studies students on 12th and 13th February 2026. The workshop was conducted by Deluxe Entertainment as part of their university outreach program. The first day focused on the theoretical aspects of localization, subtitling, quality control, syntax, and segmentation. The trainers were friendly and approachable, using audio-visual aids to help students understand the concepts and their applications. On the second day, students applied the theory in practice by editing subtitles for videos. The trainers provided constructive feedback on each student’s practical work, enhancing their learning experience.

Workshop on Filmmaking Held at the Department of Media Studies

The Department of Media Studies at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised a one-day workshop on Filmmaking in collaboration with Canon India Private Limited. The workshop aimed to provide students with industry-oriented insights into contemporary filmmaking practices and emerging technologies. The workshop began with the Head of the Department, Dr. Aby Augustine, felicitating the guest with saplings.
The technical session began with a detailed presentation by Canon experts, who introduced participants to professional camera systems, lenses, and shooting techniques used in the film and media industry. This was followed by an engaging, hands-on session in which students gained practical experience with equipment, framing shots, and lighting setups. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session that allowed students to clarify technical questions and seek career guidance from industry professionals. At the end, the resource persons were felicitated with mementoes by the faculty event coordinators, Dr. Jai Kishon Goswami and Mr. Joseph Aloysius. In the event, students of Visual Communication and Mass Communication, along with other faculty members, were present. The event was well-received and proved to be a valuable learning experience, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry practice.

Workshop on “Building Visual Vocabulary”

The Department of Media Studies, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organized a workshop on “Building Visual Vocabulary” for IV Semester BSc Visual Communication students on 18 December 2025 at H503, Humanities Block. The session was conducted by Ms Samyuktha Rao, Independent Educator and Artist, and Mr Sethu Krishnan, Writer, Educator, and Illustrator. The workshop focused on enhancing students’ visual thinking, observation, and storytelling skills through interactive discussions and activities. The workshop was well received, with active student participation, and proved to be a meaningful learning experience for the students.

Micro Publishing Zine Workshop

The Department of Media Studies, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organized a Micro Publishing Zine Workshop for II Semester BSc Visual Communication students on 11 December 2025 at H503, Humanities Block. The workshop was conducted by Ms Samyuktha Rao, Independent Educator and Artist. The session introduced students to the concept of zines, micro-publishing practices, and visual storytelling through hands-on activities and discussions. The workshop witnessed active student participation and successfully encouraged creative expression and independent visual narratives among the students.

Workshop on Advanced Photography
Date: 13 October 2025
The Department of Media Studies, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University, in association with Nikon India Pvt. Ltd., organized a Workshop on Advanced Photography on 13th October 2025. The session aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of advanced photographic techniques, the creative use of light in image composition and fundamentals of videography.
The workshop was conducted exclusively for the students of I MA Media and Communication and III MA Journalism and Mass Communication. The resource person for the session was Mr. Sterin C. T., Technical Trainer, Nikon India Pvt. Ltd., accompanied by Mr. V. Suraj Prabhu, Mr. Harsha, and Mr. Mani. Mr Joseph Aloysius welcomed and Mr. Aby Augustine, HoD, felicitated all the guests. The workshop was successfully blended theoretical knowledge with practical application, enriching students’ technical skills and creative perspectives. The session not only deepened their understanding of the art and science of photography but also highlighted the importance of continuous learning and experimentation in the field of media and communication. At the end, all the speakers were felicitated with mementos by Dr. Jai Kishon Goswami, the workshop faculty coordinator.

AI Workshop in the Department of Media Studies
Date: 23 September 2025
The Department of Media Studies at Kristu Jayanti University, in collaboration with ADiRA (AI for Digital Readiness and Advancement), organised a one-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) on September 23, 2025, in the Humanities Block. The workshop was for the students of V BA Visual Communication. The resource person was Dr Jai Kishon Goswami, a Certified Trainer for AI with DataLEADS and a faculty member in the Media Studies department.
The workshop aimed to introduce students to the emerging world of AI and its increasing influence on human life, education, and research. The technical sessions were conducted in three interactive modules by Dr. Goswami. The first module encouraged lively discussions through thought-provoking questions and a SWOT analysis of AI, exploring its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges, as well as its relevance in media and communication. The second module explained key AI concepts, including AI, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning, with clear and accessible explanations. The final session showcased practical applications, demonstrating tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, NotebookLM, and Perplexity to enhance research, writing, and learning. The workshop not only deepened students’ understanding but also inspired them to adopt AI-driven innovation in academics, research, and professional life. The event also included participation from other faculty members of the department.

Student - Led In-Design workshop
Date: 10 to 12 September 2025
The Department of Media Studies, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, successfully organised a student-led workshop titled “Designing Newsletter Using Adobe InDesign.” The Journalism Club spearheaded this initiative exclusively for the I BA Media and Communication students, with the objective of equipping them with practical skills in professional newsletter design. The workshop was held from 10th to 12th September 2025 at 4:30 PM to 6.00 PM in the H1 Lab, located on the second floor of the Humanities and Social Sciences block.
The interactive session introduced students to the fundamentals of Adobe InDesign, guiding them through layout techniques, typography, and visual aesthetics required to create impactful newsletter and Magazine. By fostering a peer-to-peer learning environment, the workshop encouraged active participation and creativity among the students. This initiative not only enhanced their technical proficiency but also provided a platform to experiment with digital design tools that are essential for future media professionals.

Photography Workshop on "Exposure to Digital Photography: Hands-on Training in Handling Cameras"

The Department of Media Studies organized a Photography Workshop on "Exposure to Digital Photography: Hands-on Training in Handling Cameras" for the students of I Semester B.Sc. Visual Communication and I Semester B.A. Media and Communication on 8th September 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at M2 Audi.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Harish, a renowned Lifestyle and Wedding Photographer based in Bengaluru. He shared his professional expertise and provided valuable insights into the fundamentals of digital photography. The session focused on the technical aspects of handling cameras, including understanding exposure, framing, composition, and lighting. Students were given the opportunity to have hands-on training, where they explored different camera settings and practical techniques to enhance their photographic skills. The workshop concluded with a short Questions and Answers session, where students expressed their enthusiasm and shared positive feedback. The event successfully helped participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in photography.

Workshop: Journalism Students Trained in Reporting and Editing Techniques

On April 4, 2025, Kristu Jayanti College's Department of Media Studies hosted a workshop on Reporting and Editing for BA JMC students in their second semester. Mr. Pradeep Nair, News Editor at The Hindu in Bengaluru, provided important insights into the principles of news writing and editorial processes. The program was organized into three fascinating sessions, during which Mr. Nair highlighted the importance of language, factual correctness, and organization in journalistic reporting. He also discussed George Orwell's six rules for clear and effective writing.
Throughout the session, students were fully engaged through interactive exercises and discussions. Mr. Nair emphasized the importance of linguistic proficiency in journalism, encouraging students to prioritize clarity, accuracy, and effective storytelling. The workshop ended with a vote of appreciation, which recognized Mr. Nair's commitment to improving students' grasp of professional standards in news writing and editing.

National Seminar on ‘Trailblazers of Indian Cinema: Setting the Pulse of Trends’

The Department of Media Studies, Kristu Jayanti College Autonomous, organized a national seminar on ‘Trailblazers of Indian Cinema: Setting the Pulse of Trends’, on February 19, 2024. The keynote sessions which emphasized on the pulse of Indian cinema saw luminaries like Dr Bijukumar Damodaran, National Film Award Winner, Shri N Manu Chakravarthy, acclaimed film critic, Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award Winner and National Film Award Winner for Best Film Critic, Shri Prakash Bare, Actor, Producer and Technologist and Shri Shehnad Jalal, Kerala State Award Winner for Best Cinematographer present and interact with audience on the occasion.
Delivering the presidential address, Fr Dr Augustine George, Principal, Kristu Jayanti College Autonomous, emphasized on the importance and significance of India cinema. He also pointed out at the shift in the film industry’s narratives with regard to content and also the relevance of digital revolution with respect to OTT streaming platforms. “Filmmakers are increasingly focusing on thought-provoking scripts, addressing social issues, and challenging societal norms”, added Fr Dr Augustine George.
Delivering the inaugural address, Dr Biju Damodaran, National Film Award Winner stressed on the culture of film viewing and film producing. Dr Biju pointed out that India produces nearly 2000 films per year, the highest in the world. He said that films are more like a political and social tool and not just an entertainment medium alone. Dr Biju emphasized on breaking the film narrative patterns and the barriers of film making and strongly recommended to encourage women and dalit film makers in Indian cinema.
Shri N Manu Chakravarthy, National Film Award Winner for Film Critic and Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award Winner, spoke at length on locating the diverse concerns of Indian cinematic traditions. Shri Manu Chakaravarthy pointed out at the traditions that Indian cinema has followed since its journey from 1930s till present day films. “Films are cinematic narratives, cultural narratives and social commentaries which provoke the social consciousness in a secular democratic society. Indian cinema depicts the Indian social realism which is a strong marker of social reality”, added Manu Chakravarthy.
Shri Prakash Bare, Actor, Producer and Technologist, talked at length about Technology and Cinema in the Indian Context as he pointed out at the negative impact of the technology. He also indicated that piracy was the major issue in terms of technology progress in cinema. Prakash Bare talked about the next important aspect of technology was immersive technology with artificial intelligence at the helm. Shri Shehnad Jalal, spoke at length on the topic ‘visualising the times’ and threw light at his journey as a photographer and a cinematographer. He shared his learning experiences with the audience and about his upcoming film projects.
‘Focus’ the annual photography magazine was also released by the chief guest on the occasion of the national seminar.
