Expert Lecture on Transformative Social Work Practices Oct 17th 2020

Department of Social Work, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru organized an expert lecture on, “Transformative Social Work Practices” on 17th October 2020, discussing the need for social workers to adapt himself/herself to this changing world and be as progressive thinkers, innovators and transformative social work leaders. The speaker of the Session, Dr. A J Christopher, Retired Professor, Department of Social Work, Sacred Heart College, brought in his rich expertise and wide array of knowledge in understanding that social work calls for transformative social work practitioners. Professor Christopher spoke about how social workers are called to be critical thinkers, and more importantly reflective critical thinkers. It is vital to constantly update ourselves and continuously learn in order to equip and adapt ourselves to our surroundings to be transformative and progressive professionals. The professional social work aspects are largely influenced as a discipline as well as a process. The beneficiaries were inspired and impacted at the social work practices and methodologies along with the humane empathetic aspect of what makes social work profession unique. The discussion made the session more engaging and was thought provoking and opened ideas of practicing the profession in a transformative nature. The students had also contributed throughout the session making it interactive and lively

The combined efforts of all the faculty members under the effective guidance and support of the Head of the Department, Dr. Jonas Richard A. helped in providing the social work students an excellent platform of knowledge enrichment. The Department’s continued efforts in providing the best to the social work trainees was visible in the feedback received from the students and it clearly implied on having a positive effect. The entire hour of active discussion led to immense knowledge development for all.
