The Department of Computer Science (PG) conducted Two day National Level workshop on "Network Simulation using ns-2". The objective of this hands on program is to bring together networking researchers from both academia and industry, to discuss recent advances, identify future directions in network simulation, and to foster Interdisciplinary collaborative research in this area. This Workshop aimed to provide an insight into simulation of Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) using ns-2. Prof. M. Joseph Auxilius Jude and Mr. V C Diniesh of Department of ECE, Kongu Engineering College, Erode were the Resource persons.
The workshop was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Augustine George, the Vice Principal. The first session of workshop was on Introduction to Computer Networks, Layers of Communication Model and need for Network Simulation by Prof. Joseph. After explaining the theoretical foundations for the workshop Prof. Diniesh demonstrated the configuration of system and installation of ns-2 to the participants. The participants themselves completed the installation process by downloading the essential packages.
In the afternoon session Prof. Joseph explained about the ns-2 architecture, Wireless scenario creation, tcl programming and its basics. He also demonstrated an example program on tcl. The participants learnt about the initial settings of variables and parameters of wireless scenario which is related to setting each and every layer of OSI.
Day 2 Forenoon session was on Multi Interface Routing Protocol Implementation in VANET and WSN. Hands on practical session were given to the participants on Implementation with tcl. Post lunch session was on Graph Generation and Trace Analysis using GREP command and awk program. Research directions on networking also discussed in the session. Ms. Uma maheswari, Research Scholar, NIT Trichy and Mr. Vinod, Faculty gave feedbacks on the workshop. They stated that workshop is a great success as it gave a great working experience to all.
On the whole, the workshop enlightened everyone and helped them to implement the networking and routing algorithms practically.
