Department of Life Sciences

Introduction

Realizing the immense potential of the life science sector in opening up new avenues of employment and the need for skilled and trained human resources, undergraduate courses in Life Science majors and postgraduate courses in Biotechnology and Microbiology are offered by the college. The Department of Life Sciences was established in the year 2002 with a vision to provide 'Knowledge and excellence in basic and applied sciences' and functions towards its mission to educate students through their graduate and postgraduate programmes by providing experienced advisors, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and a rationalized curriculum that helps build confidence in them to take up challenges and excel in their career.

The Department of Life Sciences combines the disciplines of Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Genetics into a single academic unit. The courses in the undergraduate and post graduate programmes enable the student to obtain advanced knowledge in the specialized subjects in Biosciences. The Department has been endowed the status of a Research Centre in Biotechnology of Bangalore University. A state-of-the-art research complex has been set up in the college to facilitate research by students, carry out major research projects and to pursue Ph.D. degree.

The curriculum and the various curricular and skill development programmes organized by the department is contributing contributing versatile graduates prepared for a wide range of positions in the rapidly developing fields of Life Sciences.
